My track results with CAI, not so great.

So I made it yesterday with a cold air inductions intake over my home made setup. Bad thing is I was running at 2400-2500ft all day, so not good! My car was just not making the same top end all day, I was all over the place! 113 with my single best run being 115.1 runs all in the 12.40-45 made like 6 passes. Tires were hooking and did not finally figure out how to launch right until the very end! 60s were all crap high 1.8s and right at the end of the day, I finally cut a 1.80 and I get blocked out Of 2nd gear!!!!! That could have been a 12.2 damn!!!

So I don't feel like the intake helped really, I feel my home made setup would have done just the same! Saving the money for gears! Now with tires the stock gear is terrible!!! It takes way to much rpm to get a good launch without lugging the engine down. My times DA corrected were 12.0-12.1s so not to bad. But I feel gears would really help with launching the car and cut some real ET off!

Ya.. not to happy! My car has gone faster on street tires, but in better air. It just seemed soft on the top end, and even at 2000ft my car was solid 115 and now it was pulling teeth to run that! I am not use to these tires, so I need seat time, pretty sure I will crack low 12s as I sit once I get practice and below 2000ft. So I just have to keep my head up and keep pushing, definitely not spending $400 on a intake at this point! Going gears next and a vararam for sure!

Not a fan of these tube and box intakes, the tube seemed to be getting hotter and holding heat longer then my stock tube as well! My buddies GTO with a plastic tube was cooler, and also cooled down faster after the run... Not impressed. I feel the vararam design is the way to go at this point now, I think for track times its going to at lest be more consistent.

I ended up icing the tube down on my last pass... gues what... that was my 115.1 trap!!! So what does that say...

Little 217/228 .565 on 112... Goal is 11.7s @ 118 with this cam, but its gonna take me some time to sort it out. I think I have 118 traps once I get an underdrive pully and a few other little things I am planning.

I am not sure, but it they around 7hp at the wheels. So my plan is a vararam, under drive pulley, 3" exhaust pipe and possibly a ported TB and intake with a full retune. That should get my a solid gain in power! Along with the 3.91s I should have a very solid 11 sec car. Most cammed cars run 115-118 traps, thats pretty normal, ETs are all over the place! All depends on the rest of your setup, driving, and DA. A real well setup and tuned car can trap 120s! All cammed 5th gens are 11 sec cars, but 11s dont come easy... takes some time! Unless your made of money, and I am NOT! LOL

Only way to find out is run that pig, and dont expect anything! Just a set a small goal at a time, my next one is run that 12.2 without changing anything but the day.

BTY, you have a mid 11 car in your sig! Autos are pretty friendly and much easier to launch, get some tires and your good to go. It will just take some practice but sounds like a nice setup you have!

How is your DIY airbox set up again? Maybe your DIY works that good if your buttmeter didn't notice the car pulling better...

I've got the same tires on my car right now, hope I can go at last a high 1.7 with the L99.

That little Lunati cam will run hard! Stick with it and refine the rest of the combination and the times will come down...

Here is a video of a 221/225 Lunati in a G8 with stock gear and stock converter....(right lane).

I am definetly sticking with my cam, nice running car bty!!!!Pretty sure any gain I see will be very small, I did not notice any butt dyno gain with the swap. So gears are next, I was trying to take it easy but taking it easy will not work with these tires! My last 2 runs were basically 5k launches and that's how I ran 1.80, these tires stick like glue! I was bogging the engine down all day, 5 grand and it move out nice! So pretty positive I will have some good passes once I get in some decent DA.

I think gears will make it much easier to get the car out of the hole, so looking forward to that! Every time I change something I find the next weak link, and have to drive my car different!
