Overkill Supercharger System - Now Available!

Introducing the Overkill Supercharger System for the 12-15 Camaro V6. This is a partnership between Overkill Motorsport and APDEG Inc, to reintroduce a supercharger system for our Camaro V6 platform, with improved performance through improved design!

The supercharger is a Vortech V3 head unit, with our exclusive mounting system made of CNC billet aluminum plates, a full air-air intercooler system with blow-off valve, a specifically designed catch can system for forced induction, and Overkill tuning with your choice of an Autocal handheld or HP Tuners suite. This is a complete system, which can bolt to your Camaro V6 whether it’s fully stock or fully modified.

Key Features of the system include:

-Dedicated 8-rib Supercharger Belt System, independent of the OEM accessory belt. Includes billet aluminum crank insert pulley, Gates belt and OEM quality tensioner

-Quick Change Pulley System on supercharger, allows easy changes to increase/decrease boost

-Large air to air cooling intercooler provides more flow and more cooling, all 3” charge piping, blow off valve for great sound, CNC aluminum MAF housing with air straightener screen

-Quality supporting components such as a revised power steering reservoir relocation kit and washer bottle relocation kit, a fenderwell intake system with Amsoil nano-fibre dry filter with hydrophonic prefilter sock, stainless steel fasteners, stainless steel clamps, and more

-Tracy Lewis Signature Series 3 way catch-can with clean side separator, catches oil vapors before they contaminate the engine or supercharger, specifically designed for forced induction

-Overkill tuning service, provides custom tuning specific for your vehicle for this supercharger system, with your choice of an Autocal handheld tuner or an HPTuner suite that uses a laptop

This system has been designed to grow as your power hunger grows. There are many upgrades included as standard such as the 8-rib belt system, larger intercooler and Vortech V3 head unit. You won’t be required to upgrade your supercharger components because you’ve reached their power limitations, you’ll be able to add supporting modifications such as exhaust, fuel system, camshaft upgrades and more and find a supercharger system ready to feed them boost!

Update Jan 20/Mar 2: Now available for purchase with 3-5 day leadtime for shipping! Pricing for the system is $6499. See this web link for all purchase options http://www.getoverkilled.ca/2012camarosupercharger.html

Discounts will be available if you already have Overkill tuning, or have an appropriate 3-way catch-can system currently installed.

A 2010-2011 LLT V6 system will follow once Overkill tuning for the LLT supercharger has been fully developed, and this process is underway. The LLT system will be identical with the exception of the MAF sensor housing being LLT specific.

Lets talk more indepth on the technical side of the kit and its benefits...

Independent 8-rib Supercharger Belt System

One of the things we wanted to ensure as part of our design was an independent supercharger belt system. Rather than using the factory OEM accessory belt, our system uses its own supercharger belt and leaves the factory belt completely intact.

We do this by first installing our new crankshaft pulley. Removing the crankshaft bolt allows you to slide the new pulley as an insert into the factory pulley, and then secure with the bolt. The new pulley indexes into the spokes of the OEM pulley so it’s locked into place and cannot slip.

An OEM quality belt tensioner mounted to the supercharger bracket picks up the slack on the belt. Between the belt being short, and this OEM quality tensioner, belt stretch stays controlled which further reduces belt slip possibility. Between the crank and supercharger, this is the only additional pulley in the system.

The supercharger is spaced appropriately not just for its own belt but for an 8-rib belt. Rather than using the 6-rib factory belt, a wider 8-rib belt will reduce belt slip issues as we start to get smaller and smaller on the pulleys. We can do this because we’re not limited using the OEM accessory belt, this can only be accomplished with a dedicated supercharger belt.

In addition, we’ve developed a quick change pulley system for the Vortech V3 head unit. This means we can run our own pulley sizes and is part of the 8-rib conversion. It also means you can change your pulley sizes very easily. Due to the spacing we’ve built into our system mounting plates and the new supercharger positioning, you can access and change the supercharger pulley in a matter of minutes, simply by removing the belt and removing the 4 retaining screws. In smaller pulley sizes, we have a tooth pattern to the ribs of the pulley that will provide additional grip on the belt but also be gentle on the belt and not wear it out prematurely.

Lastly, this setup increases reliability. The troublesome idler pulleys of the discontinued supercharger system is not present in this design. In addition, if you have any supercharger issues or if you damage the belt for some reason, you’re not stuck being unable to drive home, since it does not interfere with the operation of the OEM belt driving your power steering, alternator, water pump, etc

Intercooler and Charge Pipes

One item that we decided to include standard rather than have as an upgrade is the intercooler. It’s important to understand that all intercoolers are a flow restriction to some extent, and their size plays an important role in cooling and flow capabilities.

Our air to air intercooler uses a 24” long core (side to side). This is longer than the discontinued system’s intercooler by about 33%. The longer core provides more cooling capability. But also, we’ve specified a core that’s 4” thick (depth), which again provides increased cooling capability but also increases flow capability by provided more room for the air to enter and flow through the intercooler. This core fits with only minor trimming of some of the plastic shroud around the radiator.

Another important change is the switch to a blow through MAF sensor. By locating the MAF up near the throttle body in the boost stream, it’s more accurate measuring the airflow entering the engine. Our MAF features an airflow straightener screen that straightens the airflow and even out the airflow throughout the MAF housing to provide more accurate sensor readings; this screen sits in a groove that’s machined into the MAF housing, and is riveted secure, so it will stay in place! Additional benefit to this MAF placement is if you blow off a charge pipe connection, your engine won’t stall, the MAF will continue to read the airflow the engine is sucking in.

The switch to a blow through MAF also allows the use of a blow off valve rather than a recirculating valve system. The blow off valve evacuates high boost levels better and provides a great sound when you let off the gas pedal!

Additional items worth mentioning include full 3” charge piping for good flow through the intercooler system, and bead rolled connections and T-bolt clamps to reduce the risk of popping a connection due to high boost pressure.

Overkill Tuning is included with each supercharger system. Most supercharger companies outsource their tuning to provide a prepackaged tune and a delivery system, and you're on your own if you want further customization, or need tuning tech support. By comparison, tuning is what Overkill does! With Overkill tuning, you get a service that allows you to get a custom tune for your vehicle included with this supercharger, without incurring extra expense. Available in both an Autocal handheld or HP Tuner suite option, you get both the hardware and the tuning support behind it. Custom tuning to your modifications, and revisions based on providing driving scans using your tuning device are included.

Optional and highly recommended is a rental "wideband" O2 sensor kit. A wideband O2 sensor is accurate at reading air/fuel mixtures under heavy throttle, unlike the factory sensor which is only accurate at air/fuel ratios at light throttle acceleration and cruising. An insert pipe containing the sensor gets put into the tailpipe, you plug into vehicle power inside the cabin and into your tuning device, and your driving scans now include true air/fuel readings just like a dyno tune, allowing Overkill to dial in your custom tune with more accuracy and better results. The wideband kit is a deposit only, fully refundable when you return the equipment in good order.

Our Signature Catch Can System is included with each supercharger system. Unlike a generic catch-can, this setup is specifically designed for this supercharger setup. The 3 port catch can connects into the "dirty" side of the PCV system at the rear of the passenger valve cover and uses intake manifold vacuum for non-boost operation, with a 3rd connection into the supercharger inlet that provides evacuation suction when in boost, and also has a "clean" side separator, which replaces the typical breather tube from your air intake. Dual billet check valves always default to the strongest evacuation suction source. Let us explain why...

With a supercharger that pressurizes the intake manifold, such as this Vortech setup, a vacuum source at the intake manifold is lost at full throttle. In return, the lower crankcase of the engine can become pressurized, and create blow-back through the PCV "clean" side inlet stream, where a generic catch-can does not tie into. This can create a real mess, as it can carry oil and oil vapors with it. The Signature Series catch can corrects this in two ways. First, the "clean" side separator does as you imagine, separating oil vapors and now allowing them to vent in reverse and out the inlet stream into the supercharger. Second, when vacuum is not available in the intake manifold, it uses a one way check valve to prevent the catch can from pressurizing, and uses an alternate line to just in front of the supercharger to actually use the suction force of the inlet of the supercharger to create a vacuum in the can and continue to draw air out of the crankcase and through the catch can.

The entire system means that oil will stay out of the supercharger inlet, out of the intake manifold, out of the intercooler, and reduces blowby at the piston rings, all of which improves engine safety, supercharger lifespan, and overall performance.

Amsoil air filter is included with each supercharger system. This is a top of the line air filter which uses a dry nanofibre media as a filter. All the wonderful technical aspects you can read on the Amsoil website but the bottom line is that this filter uses a media fibre that is very thin and woven tight in a predictable pattern rather than just a random natural mesh; this creates a media with good surface area for flow but also with small pores which will capture small dust and dirt particles at a very high efficiency rate. Less dirt in your engine and supercharger of course mean a longer life span. The other nice thing about the media being oil-less is cleaning, a simple vacuum will often suffice but when heavier cleaning is required you simply wash the filter with woolite laundry detergent and warm water in a bucket, rinse from the inside out, and let it air dry for several hours.

Also included is a prefilter sock. Because the filter dips into the fenderwell for a fresh air source, it can get dirty and wet. The prefilter has hydrophobic properties, meaning water won't absorb into the material; this means it's extremely unlikely for the filter media to get wet, and would require the entire filter submerged in water to suck any water into and through the filter. The prefilter keeps the filter itself much cleaner, is easily wiped off with a damp cloth from time to time to clean, and prolongs its life of the filter itself considerably.

Power Steering Relocation Kit is included. This was a source of issue on previous brand kits, as the reservoir must be relocated from its factory position. Poor quality fittings and hoses can leak, poor fitment of reservoir and hoses can lead to oil supply issues to the pump, causing the pump to whine. Our relocation kit uses a new different OEM fluid reservoir and mounts it up by the brake fluid reservoir. The feed hose to the pump inlet is a reinforced rubber hose which will not collapse under suction, and resists kinking, so you won't get any power steering pump whine. The pump connection fitting is 1 piece aluminum for no leaks. All hoses are rated for oil transfer.

The location of the reservoir means easy access, even with a strut tower bar installed, and the system is completely out of the way of the supercharger and its belts.

I jumped at the opportunity when Will asked if I would be interested in donating my car for the final part of developing the fit n finishing of this great product... I was able to go down last Friday/Saturday to see the progress that was made and see what finishing touches and improvements they were making as well a just getting to hang out with Will and Tracy... The work and effort they have put into this system is inspiring and exciting... they have further opened the doors and expanded the potential of the 3.6 engine to the next level... belt slipping at higher boost levels is now a thing of the past... pulley changes fast n easy...improved airflow and efficiency... not to mention superior tuning support... thank you to Will and Tracy for letting me be a part of this!!

Now, is this totally separate from KPE, or a joint application or affiliation?

We're testing belt sizes with the different pulley sizes and we got one of the green "heavy duty" Gates belts in the mix. Here's a pic of the two independent belt systems, more clearly seen with the different color belt.
