At what mileage would you feel comfortable getting your new car tuned?
So, for me, I have a 15 SS L99 with about 3600 miles on it. As much as I want a tune I'm slightly worried about any issues yet to come with the engine or trans. as I get more miles on it.
Now, I know that there would have to be some sort of proof that a tune was the cause of an issue before they just out right void your warranty (usually), which isn't my biggest concern. It's more of a the car is still new so should I just wait until I hit 10-15k miles before I get it tuned? I'm just torn on what/when I should do it. |

Find a mod friendly dealer if you're worried about voiding the warranty, otherwise wait till you're comfortable. I don't think anything will happen between now and when the warranty is up but the potential is there but if I were you I would wait unless you find a mod friendly dealership

Like, has the engine/trans proven itself to not be a bad one. |

Part of that equation would have to be how hard you are driving the car. If there is a defect waiting to let go time and stress are the two factors at play. If you drive the car pretty easily then I would probably lean towards the 10-15k end of things. If you drive the car harder then 5-10k is probably fine. In the end it just a calculated risk.

That is whatever you feel comfortable with. My mustang I tuned in the lot when I picked it up with 11 miles. Friend did his new camaro on dealer lot too. It is whatever you feel good about.

Tuned mine for the first time at around 1k miles. Tore the engine half apart by 4k miles. No regrets. Wouldn't trust a single gm mechanic to touch my car anyway. I'll do the work myself, thanks...

If nothing has happened in 10k miles the odds are nothing is going to.

Car already had miles on it about 10k when I bought it few years ago. I think it took me about 4months of ownership to do it. I would say go for it, you know the risk.

I had a 2.0t in a Cadillac ATS that I had put a downpipe, intake, and a tune from a reputable company. 3000 miles later there was a hole in one of the Pistons, I took the car in not thinking it could be engine failure, it was just a misfire code. I had to fix it myself so I am leary to mod my new camaro. But im more confident in the tuners ability to tune these motors that I am the new direct injection gen 3s.

I drove mine like I stole it for about 5000 miles, then threw headers on it and tuned it.

Conservative driving for first 500 miles. Aggressive driving next 4,500 miles. LTH, tune at 5k on the clock and couldn't be happier.
There's a fine line between conservatism, irresponsibility and calculated risk-taking. You just have to choose which path you want to follow. Also, you can sneak up on some cars who assume since you're new, you're stock. ;-)
