Drunk 4 year old steals christmas presents...

Drunk Four Year Old Steals Christmas Presents

Quote:
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WTVC-TV) - A 4-year-old boy, beer in hand, is accused of stealing Christmas presents from his neighbors. It's a strange story, but also a sad one.
The story is funny in the beginning, but gets sad.

Sounds like a fun evening.

I'm not sure of the mothers situation but kids do things that would surprise you. I'm not as shocked as most probably would be. It never said why dad was in jail but it didn't say prison. May be a bench warrant type of deal and he'll be home soon.

It said his father was in jail for theft and drug charges.

As a parent, I don't think that's funny at all...poor kid. Give the "parents of the year award" to that family.

The father no doubt. I'll reserve judgement on the mother.

1995, I had just come home from work and I was tired as hell. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon and it was a Monday, I know it was Monday because Bonnie was home. James, our son, was running around the house terrorizing anything he could. Lol He had just turned one year old. I can still hear the sound of his little diaper as he’d fly by while I was on the couch. Bonnie was in the back room folding laundry. I sat down in front of the TV to wait for the Mariners game. (95 was a great season for the Ms) Well, I fell asleep on the couch. Bonnie didn’t realize I was asleep and I assumed she was pay8ng attention to James. He’s ONE. He can’t open the front door right? ……….. WRONG!!!!!!!!

We lived on a fairly busy street. (This is the street that I hit that kids car with a baseball for driving 50+ mph through) Anyway, I still don’t know how long I was asleep but I remember opening my eyes and seeing an old lady standing in my living room in front of me. I look down and there’s James looking up at her. She says to me, “Is this your child?”

Here I am asleep on the couch, my ONE year old son standing in the street and a strange lady standing over me thinking what a slug father I am.

Bonnie hears our voices and comes up to see what’s going on and looks at me like, “I thought you were watching him. I’m like, I figured YOU were watching him. So I thank the lady and she leaves. Now to this point, James was never able to turn the doorknob before and we are lucky he wasn’t killed playing in the street. (Why the hell do they always run to the street?)

I think that if you ask most parents you’ll hear very similar stories. It’s not terrible parenting all the time but I always said, If something bad were to happen to one of my children, I would blame myself. This article is not as bad as it sounds. One day they will look back on this and laugh. In our case it was another part of the learning process.

On a side and humorous note, when I told my brother this story he said “Dude, when she asked if he was your son you should have said, ‘Ya, uh, could you keep an eye on him for a while?’”

I saw this on my local news. I immediately became "sanctimommy". Then I was reminded of the 1 time I took my eyes off my kids and within seconds they were in the road on the wrong side of a blind hill. Scared the hell out of me. Never happened again either.

We can't anticipate everything but you can try, and learn from experience.

Hmmm....so the child reasoned that if he got drunk and stole something he could see his father?

This should be an interesting teenager. LOL
