Boost Gauge
Ok, I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way, and knowing this, I wonder if there is already a solution out there?. The boost gauge imo is one of the more important gauges to watch, especially during the times you need your eyes looking through the windshield. Why Gm felt putting it under the dash was a good idea?. Anyone know of a way to program it into the Hud, or move it somewhere better suited for competitive driving?.

So why is a boost gage needed in line of sight? There is nothing to change or watch out for?
Can not change anything while driving. If the boost was to go too high or quit, the CEL will come on. That's why it's not in the HUD. Temp gauges are important. |

I like to know how much boost is charged in the system before I consider getting on the gas or before considering a gear shift.

what I mean by "charged boost in the system" is, I noticed I can be in any gear, 1,2 3,4 ect and depending on how quickly I build up the rpms the boost will build up less or more and faster. So I can be in 3rd gear at 3000 rpms and have 7 psi of boost or I can be in 3rd gear at 3000 rpms and have 11 psi of boost, depending on how quickly I built up the rpms. Thank you for the referral to dashlogic, I will check them out. It sounds like a nice product.

i was told about the dashlogic (dont have one) and was said that it is a great product as well.
i am still confused a bit by your post above post though.

Well just purchased the dashlogic device. It looked really good, seems to be able to do everything I would like, so I jumped on it. I hope I am happy with it. thanks again for the referral for the product.

The car however has a bypass valve which bypasses this boost back in front of the supercharger if it is not needed based on throttle position and engine load. Boost does not build into something that is being stored or has to be "made" like a turbo. When the bypass valve closes based on throttle position then ALL available boost is instantly directed into the motor. (think on/off switch) Boost does gradually rise as rpm rises at wot due to restriction in engine cfm flow at higher rpms. The faster the air has to move in the engine the "thicker and stickier" it becomes and harder to flow as the result. Boost is somewhat of a useless thing to monitor as an engine that can move more cfm will build LESS boost (restriction) but make more power. Boost can be thought of as restriction in the system and less is not necessarily a bad thing. I once had a Supercharged car that had a blocked cat and before I realized it, I went WOT and it made 3 times the boost of normal and then fell on it's face and was dog slow the whole time. (according to a "ricer" how much boost? mindset it was the fastest thing on the street)... The term "how much boost" a car is "on" or "making" is a quick and simple way to quantify to others how hard the forced induction is working. But it does not account for the cfm or flow of air at all, just the pressure the intake air is under. Cfm makes power, boost gives ricers something to talk about. What? It makes no sense. You shift by RPM not boost! There is no use to know the boost while driving, there is nothing it can tell you what to change. It's like fuel pressure or oil pressure, works or it does not work.

I hear a lot of people complain about the guage placement, but personally I like them a lot. It will be missed if chevy cuts them out on the next generation.

well, I learnt a lot reading the posts replies here. I could see that the boost was climbing as the rpms where picking up, but I didn't realize is was because of throttle position, and not because of how fast I was build rpm's.
However, I would still like to be able to see when I am in the boost. |

the more important thing to look at is fuel pressure. but if you are stock you dont have to worry about it. the computer will take care of everything. but for me it is important because i am running a BAP with a stock non ZL1 pump. running out of fuel on a boosted car is a bad thing. the boost gauge is more of a cool thing to look at unless you are trying to figure out a problem.
