Nah, that's a bit exaggerated. lol I would bet most the people that have put money down already will have theirs sometime in 2018. Especially with that new Gigafactory in Nevada.

Tesla built 50k cars last year because they were selling low volume/high priced cars. This is a high volume/low cost car. Not saying they will be able to push out 200k cars a year, but i'm sure they will be doing just fine.

and looking at the sales, tesla sold 25,202 model S's last year, and 214 Model X's. compared to other plug in vehicles, the next closest car sales is the Leaf at 17,269 and then the Volt at 15,393. And that's all that Tesla sells. So it sounds like they have more than enough supply.

I think the first 10,000 orders will be delivered for Christmas 2017. Realistically the first full year of production (2018) will make at the most 60,000 units. It's better get a Bolt later this year even if it doesn't look as good then wait 2019 before seeing one in the Tesla Showroom.

I'm not exactly sure how many cars they built last year, but if your 50k number is correct, why would they be limited, when they only sold half their production?

I don't know, was it? They made 50k cars and sold half that. Was their goal to make 100k? What's the point in making a boat load of cars, if you probably aren't going to sell that many? You keep asking that question like it matters. They made more than enough to cover their sales. And now they are building a gigafactory to cover the model 3. So i'm going to say no, their production was not limited by battery supply. They made exactly the amount they wanted.

They've stated that they would need their gigafactory up and running in order to make the Model 3. I think their expecting battery supply issues to be a big deal, hence the factory.

That's still a ridiculously long wait. Can you imagine GM taking paid preorders on the 7th gen Camaro two years out from production? They would get crucified.

I was reading an article yesterday about how despite all the Model 3's preorders and hype, Bolt EV is already coming out ahead. Not only is it scheduled to go into production way sooner, it's being built by an automaker with the resources and capacity to build a high volume car. Not to mention the fact that with GM's cash reserves, they could start incentives on Bolt EV from day one and not even bat an eye. Hell GM could LOSE money on Bolt EV a la 1st gen Volt and still be in the clear thanks to the profit margins from the rest of the lineup.

The Model S is a fun ongoing science experiment, and the Model X basically sums up everything wrong with the company right now (delayed launches, supplier issues, overly complex and quite frankly, unnecessary engineering). Model 3 is basically Tesla's make or break product.

How many of these 200,000+ people are actually going to follow through. I bet half these orders are canceled by this time next year.

We were told by a friend in September not to expect to see a 3 for at least 24 months with an order placed the day orders open with money down. We aren't into making interest free loans so no thanks.

Same here. As well as how many will get the car then realize it's not for their lifestyle, the cost of home charging is too much, there is a lack of super or regular chargers in their area, the drive for service is too far etc. Once they start showing up on autotrader for $28-30k or they get a production squared away so orders don't take a year and a half to two years we would be down.
