Very interesting OP. A good friend of mine who was a good 4C Heidelberg pressman built his own thriving printing business over the years but recently got squeezed out. So sad. He had to give up his business, moved to Texas, and now works for someone else going back to his roots.

He landed me a job with the company he was pressing for back in the day and I worked my way through college on the 2nd shift feeder operating and running a few small jobs on multis and a Heidelberg Kord.

But my pressman career career was short lived when my color blindness made sure I could not accurately judge color matches. LOL. But I tried and wasted some good paper. I was good with the machinery though.

I wasted my college education in Psychology and Computing to become a software developer and other jobs surrounding the business. The work is steady and secure, pays well, but so easy and boring, yawn.

Maybe it's time for a new career. Any suggestions?

62 (only a number), retired federal law enforcement (NCIS/U.S. Treasury). State certified (OH) police officer (inspector). Retired federal annuitant (special agent, for SIGIR) and in Baghdad (07/08). Also have a '97 TA (original owner/6-speed with many mods), '15 Buick Verano Turbo (6-speed), '07 CVO Ultra Classic H-D and just sold a '68 Dodge Coronet R/T (440/Hurst 4-speed). Our 1LE Camaros are awesome.

30. Concrete foundation contractor. Just took over the business 3 years ago. 50 years family owned and operated.

I also buy/sell for either myself or others on consignment. Mostly antiques.
