Lighter-weight Gen-6? Yes.

Current Gen-5, with its extra torque? It's certainly more capable than an LS3......more IS better.

Well that's what it is, probably less for the Camaro version, so I guess we shall see what the decision is.

So any hope of a gen 5 Z is still a LS7 powered car.

Philisophically: Where would we be as a people/nation/civilization without hope? And the belief that damn near anything is possible?

Gen-5 ZEE with LS7? Sure, there's hope...because all the components exist.

1SS-1LE + ZL1 Brakes/Diff are already housed in Oshawa. RamAir/Extractor Hood + LS7 are a phone call away...

Will enough people shell out $49.9 for one? That, my friends, is the question...

However..."1-800-BUILD01...Operators are standing by..." Maybe it's time for another Survey.

In that case, I'd rather have the LT1 in it, I just can't cough up that kinda coin for a Z after tax, tag..the cam specs on it seem pretty weak, seems like there is room for improvement in that aspect

...it will be if the Camaro is scaled down, weighs less, uses new space age materials and manufacturing process thats increases strength and stability. Power to weight ratio. Base line motors right now not knowing the final specs of the car are nothng to speculate about. We are only seeing the tip of the ice berg. It could be bigger than we think....

The numbers are not offical. If this new LT1 is good enough for the C7 it will be more than enough for a Z/28, Camaro or any other GM performance car.

GM also announced today that there will be no further research on on the LS series of engines. Not really unexpected.

Perhaps even more than the mighty and loved LS7, once the official specs are unveiled, the LT1 is the engine you'll want in any Camaro.

I thought those number were official? They were announced today. Even so, the LT1 is probably the base Vette motor, like the LS3. The high performance motors will come later.

The numbers are estimated and won't be finalized until the C7's debut at NAIAS on 1/13/13. Like with everything C7 related it's a sneak peak.

I wouldn't be quick to write off this engine because it powers the base Corvette. Higher performance Gen V's will follow but this new LT1 is a substantial upgrade from the LS3.

With as much as 50+ lb-ft additional mid-range torque output, friends, this is very significant...for the Vette as well as for the heavier 4-seat Camaros.

Bring it on!

Just put a dry sump LT-1 in the thing and be done with it. Focus the rest of the attention on putting the parts bin pieces together. A unique hood with some new aero advancements will keep us happy.
