This is how I see it as well if it appears as a 5th gen, maybe a 1LE with a warmed over LS3. Theres no way GM is going to invest in trying to make the 5th gen lighter and the LS7 is effectively dead. My bet with only the 2014 model left to come out before the 6th gen, is that the z28 is a no show til then.

With all the expectation behind the Z28, why would this writer suggest that it might NOT outmuscle the ZL1?? And saying that it might replace the current SS? Come on. Really?
I can see Chevrolet offering all of the current trim levels and then adding the Z28 perhaps, but I definitely don't think it will replace the SS. Maybe the ZL1, but not the SS. And we all know that the 1LE is not its own car, like the ZL1. Its an option package for the SS. No, I think the Camaro will be like the Corvette. The Vette currently has what? Four different trim options? You've got the base Corvette, the Grand Sport, the Z06 and the ZR1. It wouldn't be a stretch for the Camaro to have as many with the V6, SS, ZL1 and Z28.

Did not read thru the entire thread - but can tell you that GM is trademarking various nameplates and brand names -- Z28 happens to be one of many.

Maybe they'll make the Z28 higher than the ZL1. After all, they need an answer to Ford's GT500....

I'm sure Pepsi renews the name Pepsi Clear but it doesn't mean they plan to bring it back. Personally I don't think there's a place for the Z28 and if they did bring it back they will be shooting themselves in the foot. ZL1=high end camaro with the most HP (GT500) SS =middle ground. Quick but not the fastest (GT) LS =smaller motor and better gas mileage with the basic styling of the SS (LX) 1LE= light weight track edition for the weekend warriors (BOSS 302) We all know the Camaro and Mustang are always going head to head. Why would GM add anything else to the mix unless it's some special edition with low production numbers. |

between the 1le and zl1. the z28 could be a 1le with an ls7 at about $45,000

I am really hoping that the Z28 will be something really over the top; something that may even make the mighty ZL1 humble.
I know that sounds a bit far fetched, but if it turns out to be true, I for one will have my 2SS shined up and ready to trade! To me, that would be the only status that would be worthy of the rebirth of the Z28 moniker; to be the absolute undisputed king of all modern day muscle for years to come!

The 1LE is a option of the SS. The Z28 will have to be its own animal. Different engine option (smaller, high revving V8) might use the 1LE suspension, and some other goodies. My guess is that it will compete with the Laguna Seca mustang (maybe no back seat, too).
All the talk about it replacing the SS? Wouldn't be the first time GM did it. They didn't offer a SS from like 74 up to Gen 4. Everything was labeled the Z28 and totally killed the prestige of it IMHO.
