This is the correct way to install the seal. The second picture is incorrect. You will kill your thrust bearing in the motor. If you look on an LT4 seal, there are letters that say “THIS SIDE OUT”.

I just reached out to them. We replaced the seal with an LS seal not an LT seal. Thats what the second picture is. Thanks for the information, that seal looks completely backwards to me, but clearly isnt
