ZL1 Wheels - Cleaning Tips?
Quick detailing question guys -
I'm fanatical about keeping my ZL1 flawless at all times...loyal Zaino user...just my favorite stuff....car always looks perfect. Now I enjoy driving the car as much as I can and find it easy to maintain a shine between rides with the The Cali Duster and some Z Gloss Enhancer. The only area of the ZL1 that consistently gets filthy are the wheels with brake dust. I have the polished wheels and even a quick 30 minute cruise gets them covered in dust. I usually have to break out the hose and wash the wheels each time. Can you guys recommend some tips to keep the wheels cleaner longer? I have hand waxed them several times to help in spraying them clean with water but the brake dust is just too tough and hand washing is needed. I'm not complaining and really enjoy taking care of the car but any thing that cuts down on cleaning time and maximizes driving time is a plus. Thanks in advance. (FYI - Just noticed a post regarding brake pads right after I posted and it goes into the dust issue....some good ideas there.) Below pic from ZMax Drag Night back in the fall. COPO driver was everyone's favorite NASCAR personality with the "assassin" g-friend. They lined us up but they wanted him to make solo runs. Nevertheless a fun night at the drags with the ZL1! Get Hawk Ceramic pads, it will cut you brake dust by more than half. I haven't had any problems at all.

The best thing I've found for minimizing (not eliminating) brake dust and making it easier to clean is Armor All Wheel Protectant spray. Spray and walk away and makes them easier to hose off and clean with just soap instead of a heavy wheel cleaner.

I polish the wheel with my best wax at the beginning of the season then I started using SONAX, but that's expensive and found the the Eagle One worked just as good. I keep a bucket with Wheel brushes in water in the garage and before I go I will hit the wheels and wipe them from the bucket with the brushes then just hose off and towel dry if time. At least once every 3 times out I will just do the same with the power washer to get every thing off the rocker panels and the rubber and dust from the wheel well.. YEah its a pain but forces you to make good use of the ride time.. :0

I actually use Mother's All Wheel cleaner and a small pressure washer. Even after driving in the rain for a week. When I dry them off I just take some Zaino Z6 and mist them then wipe dry. Then do a final wipe down with a microfiber towel. I used Mother's on my 2010 with the polished wheels and now on my black ZL1 wheels. No issues what so ever. I even spray inside the wheels. I never have to hand wash them at all. I even use Mother's on my wife's SRX chrome wheels.

Added these to my SS and it cut down on the dust over 75% When I removed them. About 1000 on the rims with stock pads Ryan

Hawk pads and polymer net shield sealant its in a spray can!! works great. What i usually do is when i polish my car, my sealant that I use is Gtechniq EXO V2, I use it on my wheels too and it is fantastic stuff.
