But is there any reason that it is only doing this on downshifts? I am not crazy about having them work on it again since they have screwed up twice already.

Certainly the carbon ring shouldn't be an issue, right?

Anyone That has had this rebuild care to comment on how it turned out in the long run? say after 10 or 20k miles. Thinking about getting it done on mine because of multiple 2nd gear issues and a 3rd gear issue.
any input would be appreciated,
Will S.

If you look at the new ZL1 Camaro TR6060, they have redesigned the shifter location and bolts directly to the internal shifter shaft.

Why would GM/Tremec have revised 2nd gear blocker ring? Why the redesign of the shifter location/mounting?
Agreed 100%.

Can anyone help me to make sure I understand my scenario correctly?

I slowly accelerated my 2011 2SS/RS M6 the other day in 37 deg F weather and held the clutch pedal to the floor while slowly shifting into 2nd gear (forgot to note RPM's but wasn't any higher than 3K) and it ground hard. 2900 miles on the car and built in April 2011. Then, once it warms up it doesn't happen again.

Am I to understand that there are no updates to this transmission? Will I just have to trust the dealer to replicate the problem and attempt to fix it?

It's just the cold weather, you have to let the trans warm up.

get the trans good and hot then come to a stop. Put the car in first gear then drive the car from first to second winding out the rpm to 4500 before shifting to second. If it don't grind then it's just the cold weather.
you can't shift these transmissions cold.

Thanks IdealG. I'll try that when I get it back. Appreciate the tip.

Found this thread in a Google search. I've lost synchro in 2nd gear upshifting or down. Has there been any progress through GM to resolve the issue? Any TSB that would get it fixed regardless of mileage. I have 88,400 miles on my 2010.

If you have an extended warranty I would imagine that is the only situation where they would honor it.
Otherwise it might cost less to take is somewhere else or just replace it.
If you've never changed the trans fluid I suggest giving that a try.

No extended warranty even though I keep getting callers wanting to sell it to me. If I were dishonest and knew how they investigate claims I would buy the warranty and wait a while then get it fixed. It is cheaper to pay for the fix than to buy the warranty.

Besides, I am honest and want to upgrade a few things when I fix it. Haven't driven it much as my commute is 80 miles a day and it already has > 92K miles.

Waiting for the time and money to go with RPM tranny and LS9 clutch as well as upgraded master/slave cylinders and MGW shifter. Not cheap but should fix several problems at one time. Will also be good prep for future upgrades.

Changed all drive train fluids last year.
