The flywheel came in but still waiting on the LS9 dics/pressure plate. Hopefully we should hear something from Tim @ T&T Performace soon.

This is awesome. I never saw the inside of a tranny. I like. BTW - What is an LS9 clutch? Is it the clutch used with the ZR1, that everyone refers to as the ZR1 clutch?

Yes, the LS9 is the engine in the ZR1. So people refer to its clutch package as the LS9 clutch.

Correct! Katech makes the aluminum flywheel (the LS9 has 9 bolt pattern) that will work with other vehicles. I installed one in a 600 RWHP C6 Z06 and WOW, the pedal feels like stock. No chatter and can be slipped pretty easily.

The clutch is being installed as I type.

Also on a side note, I'll be getting my hands on a 9310 hardened shaft with the rear support bearing. I'll start a different thread when I upgrade another TR6060 with the new front cover (midplate) and a SFI bellhousing.

Why does GM ignore the issue with the AY6 is it because they dont care as much about the v-6 owners as they do the v-8? Thats what it seems like. No company wants to try and figure out whats wrong with the AY6 after a very large thread of people having issues but the SS guys post a few times and everyone jumps on finding a fix!

GM is ignoring both the AY6 and the TR6060 issues in my opinion. As far as I know there isn't a TSB for either transmissions. The grinding issue is addressed on a case by case terms.

As far as companies jumping into making parts/upgrades, it's all about economics. The TR6060 is used by the big 3 (GM, Ford and Dodge/Chrysler) on their performance cars but the AY6 is only used in Camaros and CTS's. That is not enough transmissions to justify tooling costs for any aftermarket parts.

Rick...

Need some advice on what to do to get a tr6060 as bullet proof as possible for 600 to the wheels....

Can you give me an idea of what that would entail?

thanks!

That's not exactly true. If there was enough AY6 out there that wanted to upgrade/rebuilt I would service them.

Do you do run 1320 ft? Do you run sticky tires? The reason I'm asking is if you run on the street only on street tires, the TR6060 will be fine the way it is. Now if you run sticky tires (drag radials/ET street/slicks) and run at the track, I would recommend the 9310 shaft with the rear support bearing set up. I have compared the internal gears with the Corvette counterpart and they are identical other than the different ratios. That being said, my sponsored 2002 Z06 with HKE 403 Vortech YSI equiped car puts down 1,021 RWHP. He has dead hooked repeatedly at the track with the TR6060 (30 splined shaft) without failure. I think the weak part in the Camaro TR6060 is the main output shaft.

I do plan to run at the strip and do some AutoX with at least DR's... Probably more AutoX than anything. So I know a clutch is in my future.

But I'd like to be able to row the gears and put all the power down with minimal worry about the tranny letting go... Clutches and half shafts are what they are... trying to minimize the big ticket repairs with some preventative measures.

Hey Rick,

Thanks for the great work you are putting in. If you don't mind my asking, did you find any issues within the tranny? Is there something that could be done to fix the grinding issue? Was this Camaro have any tranny issues when you got it ?

If you're out at the strip with drag radials and launching softly, you won't need the upgraded shaft. Clutch and the axle shafts are a must!
