Clutch Maintenance

Anyone have any idea how durable the clutch's the M6s have are? How long one might last without any track time? and finally how much one might cost to replace? I know labor on clutch's is a bitch if you don't do it yourself.

Since these are so new I guess no one probably has any idea.... Kind of tempting to go with a Automatic for the extra $1200 now

$1200 right now for the automatic versus $2000 every two or three years for a performance clutch, given how poorly people will be driving these things. A clutch can last a lifetime, but it can also last a couple of months... really depends on the driver and in all honesty automatic vs. manual is a personal choice. Shifting gears isn't as macho as it once was...

A good performance clutch and forged flywheel will outlast even a person new to a manual.

Will still cost loads more than the $1200 to get an automatic and the .3 seconds from 0-60 as a bonus.

You cannot put a price on the pleasure of getting the feeling of "driving" your car with the manual if you like it.

Ya, what he said !
I read somewhere that 150K km is attainable in most cases and even more.

To the OP..."depends." Just like everyone above says. You could have the original clutch in it until the wheels fall off or you could burn it up in a week.

Very little of what you are charged for replacing a clutch is for the parts. It's time consuming to do, requires a few specialized tools, etc. I can replace one in a day for under $200 if I don't feel the need to resurface the flywheel (but you should do this), including a new pilot bearing and throw-out in my manual four wheel drive truck.

The clutch in my 99 TA was fine when I sold it at 101k miles
The clutch in my 00 Vette was fine when I sold it at 90k miles

I autocross raced and generally drove the snot out of both cars. But I also double clutched every downshift, and never rode the clutch either...

Most Corvette M6 owners follow CF member "Ranger's" clutch fluid change procedure

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...al-issues.html

BTW Ranger holds many of the records for fastest STOCK C5 Z06 and C6 Z06 vette over on the forum. You sould search out his threads on the CF. This guy is a legend with M6 Corvettes
