My previous 5th Gen SS 1LE OEM intake, like most cars, drew air from inside the engine compartment behind the radiator where it can get pretty hot. I bought a CAI Inc. CAI for my SS 1LE that sealed out the engine bay and drew air from under the car. The ZL1 already draws air from in front of the radiator through a snorkel-like baffle so the biggest performance benefit will come from the less restrictive air flow from the oiled cloth type filter. You probably won't notice any minor performance increase from this but you will hear a noticeable difference in engine noise (or music, depending on your POV). You'll hear the supercharger whine much more clearly because the CAI replaces the baffling of the OEM intake that was designed to tune out high-frequency sounds. I think most ZL1 owners buy a CAI mainly for the look and sound anyway.

Based on the photos the OP posted, I think the "Elite Carbon" CAI is one of the best looking I've seen so far. It does look pretty badass!

It does look good with the cover, but I must say it is the only one I have ever seen aftermarket that is a closed container.

Thanks for pics OP, very nice Yellow is what color I wanted, but my daughter out ranks me, so MBM it is.
I ordered mine in February, supposed to be shipping in the next week.
I choose CAI first because of the looks, the CF as you can see really dresses up the engine bay. Second, because it is enclosed, so only drawing air through snorkel, not from any places in the engine compartment that have not been sealed (probably insignificant). And lastly, didn't like the idea of a seal point on the underside of the hood. Seems like after time there would be some wear at the contact area.
Can't wait for mine to arrive

I can't speak for the 6th gens, but with the 5th gen CAI's, Cold Air Induction's has a closed lid so it doesn't draw hot air directly from the engine compartment.

Rotofab's cold air intake is a 'lidless' design, BUT even tho it doesn't have a lid, it's designed to seal with the bottom of the hood when the hood is closed, effectively acting as a 'lid' and closing the cold air intake from drawing hot air directly from the engine bay.

They're usually surrounded by metal or rubber walls to prevent heat from coming in but it's still not as good as as a properly closed intake.

I've got an open air intake on my M235i and it runs fine, it just soaks heat after a few runs of pushing the car hard.
