Cam Install

I'm trying to figure out what a fair price is for a cam install. I usually install all my own parts but I'm trying to see if it will be worth it to take the easy road and pay someone else to install it for me. So Id like to see what everyone paid roughly for their cam install, and if you had anything else done at the same time. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade so its just finding the time for me to do it myself.

About $2k for a manual (which I see you have) or about $4k for an automatic.

Man I miss the days of a small block Chevy cam swap: Buy the parts (solid lifter Duntov cam) over the counter from the Chevy parts department and 6-8 hours thrashing under the hood for completion (pull the radiator, intake manifold, timing chain cover, remove lifters and cam; reverse process with new and make final adjustments.) Total expense out of pocket under $100.

$800-$1600 for the cam install on an LS3, and figure another $4-600 for tuning. If you're doing the timing chain tensioner (and I recommend you do) then the oil pump has to come off, which is some additional work (stupid pickup bolt). The L99 is significant more complicated, the heads have to come off to replace lifters, change the valley pan, VVT components, etc. And usually if you're doing a cam in an auto, you should be doing a stall as well.

Kayla, truer words were never spoken! It sucks, but you have to pay to play.

For A stage 3 cam kit (cam, titanium valve springs, pushrods, etc.) and a e85 flex fuel kit, all installed and tuned I paid 5k. I went to ARS here in socal and theyre known to be the best! Like Kayla said, "Good work isn't cheap and cheap work isn't good"

I did my own. It as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Probably a level 1.5 on the skill requirement.
