A 6L90 holds 4 more quarts than a 6L80, are they all below the dipstick so that the level is the same for either trans? Or does it need to be filled to the fill line and then add 4 quarts?

The amount of oil the trans holds or the depth of the pan is irrelevant. What matters is the level in relation to the case/valve body/filter. The JRE dipstick kit assures proper level. Ted.

Great, thanks. Just making sure that 4 quart difference didn't matter. I miscalculated after a converter swap so I didn't have any idea where I was at anymore. I ended up starting back with full to the top of the drain tube then added 1.5 quarts. I was overfull before and it was causing no shift under WOT, same as if it was under filled.
