NEW YORK (AP) -- Federal prosecutors are set to announce a settlement with General Motors that resolves a criminal investigation into how the Detroit automaker concealed a deadly problem with small-car ignition switches, according to three people briefed on the case.


Under the deal, GM will pay a fine of around $900 million in a deferred prosecution agreement on a wire fraud charge. ...sources asked not to be identified because the agreement isn't scheduled to be formally announced until later Thursday.

I love how these fines always go to "not the consumer" and they are always chump change to the manufactures, so they can repeat the policy for less than a slap on the wrist.

"GM killed over a 100 people by knowingly putting a defective ignition switch into over 1 million vehicles," he said. "Today thanks to its lobbyists, GM officials walk off scot-free while its customers are 6 feet under."
