Don't get me wrong the auto can be bad a$$. Mine is a toy and used for enjoyment,Nya's not had a manual for years and I love the feeling of selecting my own gear when the situation dictates. I'm sure you'll be happy either way.

2013 2SS/RS
When I was looking wanted a stick but ended up with auto because it was a unique looking color scheme. The L99 with paddle shift and punch off the trac and stability control and it will pin you plus for regular driving VVT works well for economy

I have a 2015 - 1SS - L99 but had an opportunity to convert and took it. First, I tried to make the car ... sound ... better, being as the factory thought it shouldn' t have any. Making it a little long, but detailed so you know what I did, I put Magnaflow muffers on first. They were terrible, and then removed the "center resonator" with straight pipe...the sound was not good. I was sending the car in for mods, but a few days before I had the Meineke shop I was using, install an "X" pipe, and re-install the O.E. mufflers. The sound of this was OK, but not what a muscle car should sound like (at least not what we had back in the 60's). I took the car to the shop for the "mods", which were GM Perf Parts ported heads, BTR stage 2 cam (and related parts), LS3 conversion & Circle D converter. I already had an Ebay CAI & Pacesetter headers w/cats, but with the "mods" the car was a very different animal. I have not had a chance to re-dyno it, but the exhaust sound is fantastic now, so good that I sold the O.E. NPP exhaust I bought which was going to be installed after the mods were completed, and even the builder, after hearing the sound of the car said it was amazing.
As far as your choice of transmissions, if you find the "exact" car you want except for transmission, I would not let that deter me from it's purchase, because you said it's a "Sunday Driver" type car. If the car happens to be an L99, you can always install a converter and "wake up" the cars feel. This also gives you the option of manual shifting, so you can have the "feel" of both, as the situation arises. Either way, the best of luck finding .... your .... toy.

There are two issues I have with the LS3;
1. Skip shift-can be eliminated 2. Hill assist-this one is the most annoying one. Had I known about this during my test drive, I would have considered an L99. |

LS3 all the way. You drive the car, not the other way around.
