carbon fiber is unless it's painted over like it should be.

But I behaved.

I'm not holding my breath on that one, but I would definitely drop some G's for a hardtop vert. I was talking to a friend with a new '11 convertible the other day and he said that at speed he can see the middle section above the back seat "sort-of flapping." I would only do a 'vert if it were hardtop.

It would be rad if they introduced something like that as a Transformers special edition.

Besides that though...

The Vette just beat the GT500 by a tiny amount, and thats the GT500 at 550hp, not the 2012 at 620hp. I SO want to buy this car but I will have to wait for the real numbers.

That was kinda expected, but not good to hear. It is IMPERATIVE for me that any ZL1 that I drive should beat a stock GT500 of the same model year with a touch of margin to compensate for my occasionally-less-than-razor-sharp shifting.

Techhie guys, two questions:

Let's assume the ZL1 comes in stock around 565 HP. This probably means we would need around 85 more HP to beat the lighter 620 HP GT 500. (565+85=650 HP ZL1)

I know we're missing specifics, but indulge my fantasyland for a moment. What would we have to do to get those numbers, and how close could we come without voiding the warranty?

I really want to beat the Ford-ponies in my Camaro. It's way too easy on my Hayabusa.

.

BTW, here's some Drool-Candy from my ride around Rim Road in El Paso the other day. Enjoy.

That's a hard one. I think thats impossible without voiding the warranty. I heard on the corvette boards that a Z06 owner whos 100 % stock LS7 blew up wasn't covered because he painted his red engine cover a different color. They voided his warranty, BECAUSE HE PAINTED HIS ENGINE COVER!!! GM is finding every way possible to not do warranty work on their cars. If they can't void the warranty for whatever reason when you bring it in for a problem, they tell you it's supposed to do that. Getting warranty work done with GM is like pulling teeth.

It would be really nice if they offered the LS9 engine as an option. I'd pay another 10 grand for an LS9 lol

I have a very hard time believing that is the truth or the full story.

It's the rumored 2013 output with a new engine. Forgot the source.

I can see them keeping this a hardtop only model.

I keep seeing folks wanting a convertible ZL1 and auto transmission, and other comfort features. Now I'm certainly not an expert on this here, but in my reading about performance cars I understand that speed and handling is definitely impacted by the design of a convertible . Not having a solid roof structure causes the car to flex improperly on take-off and reduces handling as well as speed. A true performance machine should only have a solid roof structure. And I'm not really sure that an automatic transmission would be the best thing on a high-torque machine either. My preference is DEFINITELY manual.

Can't wait for this beast to be produced and to get a test drive! After driving a manual 2SS, it's almost impossible for me not to spring for one right now and then trade up to the ZL1 when it's released.

Automatics have come a long way since the 70's and 80's when I was driving both types of transmissions the last being an 87 grand national
which only came in an automatic. Only had a 3.8 liter engine but was
turbo charged and a very quick car for the times.

For me personally I'll be 57 when I get my car next year, and although I can appreciate manual transmissions, I'm at the point that I would like
an automatic to be an option. If they add a couple thousand, I would be
willing to pay for the conveince. I believe GM would really sell alot more ZL1's if they offered an automatic transmission.
