e85 tune or go cammed.

I just thought about this tonight. I'm scheduled to get a e85 flex fuel tune
at cunningham motorsports. I'm thinking instead of getting e85, I go with their custom camshaft. I don't have LT's yet but I do have a CAI and manifold. Thoughts and opinions are forever grateful. I am a noob and dont know too much when it comes to modding. sorry

Buy once, tune once, and cry once. Took me a few years. Had my cat back on for a long time. Then finally acquired all the parts and cash. Headers, CIA, ported TB, rod mod intake, ported heads, cam, stall, and tune installed all at onece.

I would cam it. The headers will require a tune, as will a cam. CAI and TB do not. I’ve replaced my exhaust and if and when I do anything it’ll be headers but I the cam is in my future it’ll all be done at once and one tune and be done. Makes no sense to pay for multiple tunes within weeks or so in between.
I’m fifth gen was cammed and it sounded bad ass! Got so much attention at car shows, gas stations and stop light intersections.
I think the biggest fear on E85 is availability

Why not both? A cam plus install will be like 3-4 times as much as e85, so I'm assuming it's not the cost you are worried about?

I would do both if the budget allows. Remember, that e85 gain of approximately 30whp is stacked on top of the power gains of the cam. On their dyno, depending on your goals with your cam, you will be close to 480-500whp on their dyno with e85, N/A cam. (Stock manual cars baseline dyno 375-390whp, auto 365-380whp.

E85 is a no brainer if you have access. Even with a cam! Let us know how it pans out!

The tune for my CAI and manifold plus the e85 flex fuel kit will be $1100 from cunningham motorsports. Talk to them about their custom camshaft package plus install would be appox. $3800 A little outside my spending limit due to it being the holidays and having to buy presents and the girlfriend having a headache when I mention car parts. Will look into putting a cam before summer comes, maybe mid April. Will move on from performance to exterior mods this winter.

I'd cam as well, and it's in my later years of mods, I am 58 and doing suspension 1st for my GT. I need a rich girlfriend myself for headers!

Were you comparing the two thinking that the cost would be the same to install each individually? Cam installs aren't easy on these LT1's when compared to the fifth gen L99 and LS3. I would do both since the car will need a tune with the cam. So if you added the flex fuel sensor to the cam package, the price won't be an additional $1100, maybe another $500 on top of the cam install.

E85 is the best bang for buck on these cars. The cam chop will get fatiguing over time...I have had Heads/cam cars for the last 12yrs. My advice be to go mild on the cam and port the heads.

I'd love to cam the car, dont get me wrong. but $3800 compared to $1100 isnt really working for me. I cant spend the extra $2700 for the cam package. I wish I could, but I cant.
