Interesting question.
I'm not sure that many guys have done a true L99 to LS3 conversion. Most of the guys that are doing an L99 to LS3 conversion are also going with aftermarket cams or putting superchargers on their cars. They're not going with the LS3 cam shaft which would make it a true L99 to LS3 conversion. I thought I had a lifter issue (ended up being a bad header gasket). I was going to do a L99 to LS3 conversion (ADM sells a kit), but I was going to keep the stock L99 cam or go with an aftermarket cam. To go though all that trouble, cost to power wise, you'd be better off going with an aftermarket cam than using the stock LS3 cam. |

I just don't want people to think they'll pick up 80 rwhp by doing an LS3 conversion. The majority of the HP is from an aftermarket cam (not an LS3 cam) and supporting mods I would guess. |

i went from 327 rwhp ( best of 13.0 ets & 107 mph )to 394 rwhp (best of 12.2 ets & 116mph ) when i did my converstion with a f/i aftermarket cam , now with my procharger im at 654 rwhp (best of 11.0 ets & 125 mph ). alot more parts needed to do it right , not just a cam swap .

You are 100% correct. We went with a Jannetty specd HUGE blower cam. Not a stock LS3 cam (whats the point of that). So I guess one could argue that all we did was take the DOD and VVT out of my L99 and replace it with different, better (IMHO), parts. |

I was pretty sure no one would do the ls3 conversion without going to a bigger cam that is to much money to put just a stock one in. I'm trying to run in the high 11s and i was wondering if the ls3 conversion with a bigger cam will put me there. Right now my average times has been 7.90s in the 1/8 at 87mph and 12.30s in the 1/4 at 109mph and my 60ft average has been 1.79 to 1.82 on the stock pirellis. My mods are Lt, cai, tune, and 3200 yank converter. I just purchased some nitto drag radials but have not put them on yet. I appreciate all the info i can get.

With your mods (CAI, LT, Tune, Yank 3200) you're capable of running high 11s with some drag radials. Your stock tires are holding you back with the Yank converter. Any well selected cam package (LS3 conversion or not) should put you well down in the 11s. The LS3 conversion just gives you more options as far as cams you can go with. |

I would guess high 11's - add a Maggie and you can expect mid 11's. Here is a video from the LSX Shootout last year:

We've made 100 flywheel horsepower gains going to the TSP VVT-3 camshaft from a stock L99 camshaft. You don't need to get rid of VVT & go to a LS3 style camshaft. We have LS3 cars getting L99 cam conversion!
