Article on Oppositelock trolling the new SS

I can't believe this guy...a former gen5 owner posts this article on Oppositelock (a Kinja site):

http://oppositelock.kinja.com/the-jo...-v8-1761818713

He's coming from a gen5 and plays like he has his heart set on a new Camaro SS, but wants "something better for less money". Without even looking beyond the sticker price, he buys a used 2012 M3 with the comp. package from Carmax.

Gotta love how he leaves out the price of the cars. A used M3 with the comp package is $48k on Carmax. It's also going to cost a whole hell of a lot more to insure. He could've easily ordered a loaded 2SS for less than that, or a 1SS for a lot less. Carmax has a great warranty, but you also have to buy that on top of the car, while the Camaro comes with a limited mileage warranty included.

I think his point wasn't that he didn't want to spend $45k on a car....just not on a Camaro. He explicitly states...

"...it felt like a silly decision to spend a new $45000 or more on car that I intended to keep for only 1-2 years before moving to a more family-sized vehicle."

I think what he was meaning is that it would be a dumb financial move to pay $45k for a NEW car that he was only going to keep for 1-2 years, because of the HUGE depreciation in the first 2 years. He would be eating all of that for the next owner. Whereas, if he gets a used BMW, most of the significant depreciation has already occurred, and the line is a lot less pronounced in terms of monetary loss.

Even though he wrote a long article, his actual writing skills are rudimentary at best.

I don't really see this as trolling a Gen 6...btw.

It's more so a story about how you can get a great deal on a used car and it's not wise to buy a brand new car that you're likely going to be rid of within a few years. The M3 and Camaro might be close on MSRP, but when you turn around to sell it..the M3 will still likely be in the mid to high 30's, where the Camaro will likely have dropped into the 20's.

"Euro tax" always has been and continues to be ridiculous. The cars are not that much head and shoulders above any thing else and their owners and fanboys think they're God's gift to roads.

SpeedIsLife said it in more words (below). Not seeing how his choice has anything to do with a new Camaro.

looked like to me he wanted something different. i personally wouldnt have spent that much on a used car when i couldve got something i liked that was new.

wonder how he'll feel after a year lacking any torque.

The M3 has the initial depreciation hit already factored in on the sale cost...

He said he wasn't planning on keeping the car more than two years (I think) so the depreciation hit would have been massive.

Apparently anyone who has the opportunity and ability to buy a 6th Gen but chooses any other car, other than a Corvette, is a troll to some.
