Whirring Sound on '17 ZL1

Recently my ZL1 started making a whirring sound at low speeds. It changes with rpm. I was thinking maybe an idler pulley. Anything else I should ask the dealer to check before I make them a call?

Can you try to describe it more precisely. Is it only at low speed (gear) or also at stand with low rpm? Front or back? Left or right? Warm and or cold?

I'll try to get a video of it bit. It's not super loud, so hopefully it comes through on the camera. It sounds like its coming from the front. I can hear it at speed on the freeway if its quiet. It happens warm and cold. Also it sounds a bit noisy with the hood popped.

My ZL-1 did the same thing starting at about 10k miles. I took it to the dealer and they advised me that there's a GM engineering study going on about the issue. They also told me that it's safe to drive, but I swear it's getting louder. It sounds like a beer keg full of cicadas humming/buzzing. You can't hear it at idle, but as soon as you increase engine speed, it's there. You hear it loudly if you're next to a curb or wall with your window down.

I wouldn't have worried much about it if it had always done it, but as it started about 10k, I was worried that something was going to break.

Go to your dealer and get it documented so they'll contact you back when/if there's a warranty fix.

Thanks for this! "dissipate after 1200-1400 miles?" Mine started about 10k and is now 12k, so I'll see on that one. I'll wait till after the first of the year and nag my service manager about it again if it's still noisy.

May be wishful thinking on GM's part.

You might be able to use the fact that it has not dissipated in 1200 - 1400mi as a way to get them to replace the SC.
