Fuel Efficient Car Wanted

After realizing I put around $100 worth of gas between my two vehicles last week, I am looking for a used, fuel-efficient car around $12,000 or under. I need one because the Silverado isn't very good on gas mileage and mine has about had it since it has a little over 180,000 miles. I got the Camaro as a weekend car, I need something that is good on gas to drive back and forth to college in. Any suggestions?

You could get a new cobalt for about 12,000.

I saw the Cobalt LS for $15,000 but I really don't want to spend over 12. I think the lowest end one didn't come with A/C.

Buy one used. Then you could get the higher model for less money. There are a lot of gas friendly cars for under 12 grand.

I'll give you my Subaru for $12k. I should warn you that the driver's side door handle is detached and the brakes* don't slow down the car (every brake is an emergency brake). It gets better mileage than your Silverado.

*brakes—I should let everyone know that the deathtrap has not been driven in quite a while.

Option C:

Buy nothing. Save 2,000 for auto repairs for the car you currently drive, and then take your extra 10,000 and use on gas, clothes, women, booze.....etc.

I assure you, it comes with A/C...hehe -- I own one.

I also bought it (2008), out-the-door for $13,3xx. The '08 gives me a consistant 33mpg, and it was rated at 31 (auto). The newer ones are rated at 33 (auto), so I suspect they'll be even better than mine on gas.

It's a very well put-together car...and I have NO issues with it outside of the HVAC blower fan ticking (which is getting replaced under warranty).

Actually the Cobalt 1VL did NOT HAVE A AIR CONDITIONING (that's what I'm assuming because the next trim level up said it featured air conditioning). It was weird, I thought that was standard on all cars. I've found some good deals on Autotrader, even an 2006 SS for $8,500 fully loaded with only 20,000 miles. I'm wondering what's has happened to it in the past for it to be that cheap.

Local Chevy dealers have new, no-frills (minimally equipped) Aveos for 9K.

Wow....I stand corrected...that's a new one. I've never heard of the VL trim before...mine's an LS. The lowest you could go in '08. hm...

See any used '07s or '08s around?

It was on the "Build Your Own" on the Chevrolet website. http://www.chevrolet.com/vehicles/20...coupe/build.do

I'm looking on AutoTrader and found a lot of good deals. 2007 Black, Fully Loaded LS for $10,000.
