Quick question

What causes flames to shoot out of the tailpipe?

Unburned fuel in your exhaust pipe.

Have you removed your cat's? if you haven't, you'd better get that checked out.

This shouldn't be happening on a car with a full exhaust lol. Unless of course you have a flamethrower kit installed...

One reason can be when a car is running too rich, meaning that the fuel to air mixture is not correct. There can be many things that cause this.

If you're trying to get flames to shoot out the back you can buy one of those flamethrower kits, or drill a hole in your tailpipe near the end and mount a spark plug in it hooked up to a switch and if you engine runs lean then when you flip the switch you'll get flames. Though I wouldn't really suggest either method, they may look cool, but there's a lot that can go wrong with flames coming out your tail pipe.

Now if you're seeing flames and not trying to/don't know how they're happening then something is definitely wrong and I don't know what to tell ya. I've seen that on my bug before, but I'd be worried if it happened to my Camaro

Just to clarify it hasnt happened to me. I currently have a muffler delete and the decel pop reminded me of how flames shooting out the exhaust would sound

There are also "flamethrower" systems for exhausts that can shoot flames a good distance from the car. Dangerous, but used responsibly at shows, it can look pretty neat.
