Buying Camaro As First Car

So I'm looking at a Camaro as my first car and I have a few questions regarding price and insurance. I'm looking to buy it used with the model being no less than 2010.

- How much insurance is a 24 year old expected to pay for having a Camaro?

- What is a reasonable price for a used Camaro with about 50k or less miles on it? My budget right now is 14,000. I'm not paying the full price as I'm planning to finance it (I have good credit so it's not a problem). Is that a reasonable expectation for what I'd want?

- I see a lot of Camaros that are cheaper but have 100k+ miles on it. I'm trying to avoid that since I'm not sure how reliable that will be.

Thank you.

Let me help you out since Im a 24 year old Camaro owner

FWIW - My car is a 2015 Camaro SS

Insurance - will vary greatly depending on what you elect to have for your coverage options. For example - I have 250,000/500,000 with a $1000 deductible and 1 minor speeding ticket on record and my insurance is roughly $165/month. I am turning 25 and insurance will drop to roughly $110/month.

Price expectation: I would assume youre looking into the v6 options - since I doubt an SS has depreciated that low just yet. I would be willing to bet you could find a fairly clean 2010-2013 V6 in the $15,000 range. Reasonable loan at 3% over 60 months puts you at roughly $270/month before a down payment.

Quick look at Kelly Blue Book shows fair purchase price for a base LS V6 around $11,500-$14,000 for a 10-13 Camaro

I just bought a 2011 for my son with 71k for $12,500. Don't forget taxes and registration fees. They are out there for under $14k in a v6. Finding a clean in for that kind of money took us 6mo. Go get insurance quotes before you buy.

Insurance has too many factors ex location, driving history, credit score

what someone pays else where you may double even with the same record, type of car.

Absolutely! Good luck finding a Camaro. Best advise I could give you - make sure you know insurance cost going in because it might be a deal breaker. That and don't settle for the first car you could afford. Do some looking and make sure you find a perfect match or you will regret settling at some point.

Keep looking till you find the right one.

I'm surprised that I missed this post. My honest opinion is two pronged: I think that it would be fun for a responsible adult to pick up a Camaro as a first car, but I tend to discourage a young beginning driver from purchasing a Camaro, especially a v8 Camaro.

Realize that regardless of age, there is a learning curve in owning and driving a fast and nimble car. You just don't "point and shoot" with Camaros or any fast car. You have to be attentive to the road and use the car responsibly. It also would not hurt if one could get some seat time behind a performance car before picking up a Camaro. This is my honest opinion before owning a Camaro for the first time.

Insurance will vary depending on your location and that area's driving statistics. Younger drivers tend to have higher premiums than mature drivers over 30. Shop around with insurance carriers and go with a company that has a proven history of support with claims and customer service.
