OP - I think you've got it in the bag. While a stock LS1 is a bad machine in stock form, the L99 and LS3 is just faster in pretty much every way.

I agree with big hammer and this guy

I had an 02' camaro ss AUTO that would eat my 2010 ls3 ss alive. It was a factory 12 second ls1, and responded to mods and beatings all while begging for more. My ls3 has not been nearly as impressive. And I am not hating, I love my LS3, but my LS1 camaro was by far a better performing car. Nothing to do with driving ability, either.

My nod is to the LS1 as well .... someday I want to own another one

What kind of track times did you run with both cars, when both were bone stock?

I think it come down to the ease of driving your automatic. The LS3 M6 is a faster car in the right hands.

It is quite common for a stock LS3 Camaro to run high 12s @ 110 ish mph. But high 12s @ 110 mph would be an extremely fast (freak) pass in an auto LS1 Fbody.

We have many members of this forum that previously owned LS1 Fbodys (including myself). Mine was also an A4 auto.

Anyone have an LS1 A4 Fbody (bone stock) 1/4 mile list from a forum? I'd like to compare it with the LS3 M6 list.

There is no such thing as a *documented* bone stock LS1 F-body that has run 12.5, 12.6, or 12.7. I have *heard of one or two that claim 12.7s (M6 cars, not A4s), but they never had evidence to back it up.

Lots and lots and lots of VERY LIGHTLY modded LS1's that could run those times, or significantly better. But not bone stock...

Just out of curiosity, do you know if the car Evan Smith drove into the 12.8's was an A4 or an M6? I have always thought of that particular run as the fastest documented LS1 F-body run.

I have a hard time believing that a bone stock LS1 f-body even exists. How could you own a car with that much potential still be stock +10 years later?

That would be an M6. 12.89 at Englishtown in cold air with a 98 or 99 Z28. He later went 12.96 with a 01 SS in much warmer air at E-town. Also an M6.

Yeah, temps were in the 30s and they were spraying the track to help with grip. (DA was like negative 2000 ft)

The test I saw where he returned with an SS in warmer air, he couldn't do better than low 13s.

Maybe he did a different test I didn't read about.

If this ant the biggest load of crap I ever heard! I would love to see a stock a4 ls1 take out a well driven ls3 I have owned two of them both auto and m6, my brother still has his Bolton, tuned, 2000 trans am also... When I was bone stock my car still walked my brothers t/a, after the headers no contest! The top end pull is MUCH stronger in these cars.

At the track a 4th gen with Boltons will put down 108 traps on your avg summer night, stock or bolted 5th gens are trapping 110-112+ and I have personally seen 116...this on a average night around here. I realize there are allot of fast 4th gens out there, but MOST stock 4th gen ls1 cars will run mid 13s at 104-106, that's the truth... A 12 sec stock ls1 car, MOST are not! Maybe your ls3 needs a fuse pull, or still needs a good break in, your stock rune could be pulling timing also. I would look into it.
