About to buy headers, air intake, and tune. On a budget lol

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times so just curse me out if this answer is out there but I havent found exactly what I'm looking for. I want to make a few low cost meaningful (bolt-on) changes to my stock 2010 l99 so I'm deciding to add a CAI intake and some budget long tube catted headers, and I'm considering contacting the legendary dynosteve to tune once its done.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm probably going to do cold air inductions intake and speed engineering catted long tubes unless I'm convinced otherwise. Anyone have any problems with these brands?

Or should I be looking in other areas?

Thanks!

Hey there EJSS,

I also run a Cold Air Inductions cold air intake that I purchased from a forum member and it has been great. As far as Speed Engineering headers they are great headers for the price, I have had them on the car for almost two years. The fitment was good although, we had to ding the passenger side header because it barely touched the sidewall. Overall both brands will give you your desired power outcome for a relatively great price. Good luck with your build!

If you are thinking of using dynosteve for the tune, I would just PM him and talk about putting together a package for you. He'll probably give you a package deal and save money over buying everything individual.

Those would be the exact first mods I'm going to do when I finally get mine. Just a few more financial items to get taken care of first. Waiting impatiently I might add.

Thanks guys, I will PM dynosteve soon and see what he can do for me. I'm also considering doing high flow cats (catted midpipes) instead of long tubes, but definitely doing CAI and a tune.

It just takes some time and reading. Sounds like you've made up your mind...just do it.

there are varied vendors that sell packages with tunes included when you buy the parts from them, I would look for one of those since your remote tuning...such places are like.....Jannetty, Livernois, etc....and maybe even RDP...… since your going to have to buy the handheld it makes since...……..

dynoSteve's tune deal gives you FREE lifetime updates. WHO else does that? Get your initial shit from him and then down the road if you find a good deal on a cam(like I did) or the like, I just hit him up with the new specs and I had a tune file BEFORE I even turned the first bolt(yeah, I do ALL of my own work).

Super friendly and will answer your q's even while on vacation.

Personally don't see the need for a dyno tune unless going F/I or a major high power build.

good luck!

PEACE

BTW - I bought a used SCT X4 and he still gave me the lifetime update deal, dude is for real and his aussie accent is kinda cool too.

After piecing together a Header (used), CAI(used) and tune trio for "cheap" it might be better to just buy it all from one person.

Headers $250 (TSP)
CAI $175 (RotoFab)
Tune $550 (Jannetty)

Speed Engineering doesn't make high flow cats. You'll either have to source high flow cats from elsewhere or just get some TSP, OBX, or Stainless Power headers and have a one stop shop for headers with high flow cats. The price is pretty comparable once you add the cats, a little more, but not much and you get a 2 year warranty.

Thanks, yeah I realized that a week or so ago while doing my research. I ended up getting some midpipes with high flow cats instead and holy cow I didnt realize how much of a sound difference it would make. Damn thing sounds like a dragon now. I know it's nothing to you with your build but I'm new to modding and I was taken by surprise. Nice little boost in power too, definately happy with them. Now I'm about to buy a CAI intake and see if that makes a noticable difference. I will probably still end up getting long tubes in the future but at this point CAI intake and tune are the next two things on my list.
