I think the $3k was for the rotating assembly.

You can get a great rotating assy for the hp level right at $2000 - or $1979

rotating assembly for $2k that will hold 1500hp wont do you much good on a block that cracks the cylinder at 1000hp though. Need a different block to hold 1100-1200

I have an LS3 block and its fine over 1000HP for years. I had to put pistons in it 18 months ago because I got it too lean but thats my fault.

That's good and lucky. There's plenty that don't have the same story with the piston sleeves breaking off at the coolant jacket at around 1000whp.

ITs got nothing to do with luck.

If you detonate at these power levels the motor is done. Doesn`t matter what is in it. ITs done.

That`s the real reason some live and some don`t .

Stock LS3 block will hold 1000-1100 without any problem. I love how there are a few isolated cases of cracked blocks out there and now people think they all will break. Trust me there are way more people making 1k+ out there on an LS3 than the very few who had failures

This. Especially in Vettes, but they are a lighter car. I would also think 1000hp via turbo would be easier on the block because you do not have the side loads on the crank that a supercharger imparts and you are not having to make that extra hp to drive the supercharger.

But for peace of mind you can go LY6 Iron - if you are going to push beyond 1200 - aftermarket like Dart LS Next with priority main oiling - a plus

Think. You can make +1,000whp with an aluminum LS3. Will it be pushed close to its limits? What are the consequences of exceeding the threshold? Costs? Now, think about an iron block and exceeding 1,000whp. Consequences? Sure, some have got their motors to live - good for them. But, is that justification for you to slap big money down on a gamble? Your call but if I were you, I'd listen to logic. I know what I did, and after inspecting the pulled LS3 I had three cracked sleeves I didn't now about, and some out-of-spec not as rounded cylinders, and I like to run E85 and run max power rich.

My close friend making 1100 now for 2 years forged LS3
John doc "cowmaro" LS3 making over 1100 for a long time
If you search you will find issues with iron blocks cracking in the sleeves as well.

At the end of the day find a reputable engine builder you trust and go over realistic goals with the build and go with what someone who does this on a daily basis recommends

For some reason, I always thought the Cowmaro used 5.3's.

Cowmaro is a forged LS3, was just upgraded rods/pistons first and pushed it hard enough to break the stock crank. LS3 block was fine

Cow maro is a bad car haha but wonder if it would of held up the same as a top mount supercharger since it’s more abusive to the motor
