I have a V6 Camaro and a V8 2013 Mustang GT. Huge difference. Is the V6 slow? No but it's nothing like the GT. Also even with my MRT 2.0 exhaust on the Camaro (which is really good IMO) it's nothing compared to the sound of the stock exhaust of the V8.

Love both of them but in different ways.

My God there is so much butthurt going on in this thread its hilarious.

I told the mods to kill the thread yet it still exists. Even one mod went so far as to call out the OP and put words in his mouth. Get a grip guys...he never said he said his V6 was as fast or faster. So much blowing out of proportion and then theres the generalization thrown out there by some of you that all V6 owners are the same.

"Go drive a ZL1 and then get back with us"........really???????

Lol.

There are a lot of great members here and great discusions. Then theres these threads.

Mods....kill it

Just to keep this going, the only thing worse than a V6 owner trying to justify his purchase, is a V6 guy dressing up his car in SS or ZL1 parts....

Ha, said it...

I don't know that most are V6 or SS, but quite a few guys putting ZL1 front ends on their cars. But that doesn't bug me, just the ones that put SS badges on a non SS.

But on the other hand, doesn't hurt my feelings if someone drops a V8 in a '69 that came 6 cylinder and makes a clone.

On the other hand, I'd hate to waste a good COPO, and of course I don't have the money for it, but I thought it'd be funny to put a ZL1 front end on a black COPO and take it to my local drag strip and not tell anyone it isn't my car, get some races going.

Um, no offense, but, they aren't gonna kill a thread just because you told them to.

Why I skipped straight from being single to being divorced with no marriage in between so I don't have to justify stupid purchases like a Camaro when a Cruze would have gotten me to work just the same.
Well I took a 2012 ZL-1 out for a test drive today. And honestly, I wasn't impressed. Or should I say I'm soo much more impressed with the SS engine. I mean, they pretty much accelerate the same...and blah blah blah...sorry, couldn't help myself. Lol!!

A little secret for you guys (I used to own an Challenger RT) theres a reason why I love this car and joined the form.. just sayin.
Me too, kind of. At 16 years old my first car was a big block Challenger and I've always loved them . The truth is nobody in the muscle car game is going to let anyone rule the top spot forever. It's good for all us car nuts and keeps life interesting.

And, for Christmas this year I got a Valentine V1 to put in the ZL so I'm hoping to avoid some of the tickets from the highway patrol guys. They seem to lack a sense of humour when you stretch the legs on the car and the "I'm cleaning the carbon out" doesn't work with them.

Both my 2013 LFX RS and the 2012 L99 were automatic transmissions. in terms of acceleration I felt both were on even playing fields. I noticed the power band bald spot that I normally experience in 4th around 5,500 grand disappeared in the L99 and it seemed as if it could push through with more notable but not a significant difference in power through 5th and 6th gear. My over all assessment? If your going for an SS buy the Manual or put the difference in cost into bolt on engine modifications into a 2LT (RS preferably) either way you slice it you'll get the most bang for you buck out of either 5th gen Camaro experience. Don't believe me? I encourage each of you LFX owners to head out to your local dealer and put L99 to the test yourself (minus the 2LS of course).
Take a Range AFM Deactivation device with you, plug it in, and drive it in Sport Mode. You'll see (and feel) what you are missing.
Also, I promise you that SS you test drove had Regular gas in it, so the ECU had the timing changed to protect the engine. Totally different beast with AFM deactivated and premium gas tables activated.

Other than the fact, not opinion, that the l99 smokes the V6 as it should, the other big difference is that V8 sound that you just can't get from a V6. The ZL1 smokes the L99 as it should too. I don't k know why people get butt hurt over facts.

I do however have to agree with the op in a way that the L99 doesn't give you that seat of the pants feel for how fast it actually goes.
