Racing Seat?

What are you guys running for seats? I'm looking for something that is known to fit the Gen 5 camaro for under $400 that doesn't compromise safety.

And I'd like to retain the stock seat belt.

You want safety while racing with the stock seat belts but feel better about it by buying a “race seat”.
You’ll need a 5 point belt harness with better mounting points. Depending on the racing, a roll cage to meet the need and then a race seat. But you didn’t mention what kind of racing so the correct folks can chime in.

Well the stock seat belts are out. I just sold the seats which have the buckle on them. haha

So 5 point harness it is. Does anyone make a brace that sits behind the driver shoulder height to mount the harness that is bolt in?

I can weld, but it aint pretty.

I dont need a roll cage until 9.99 at my track. And I can't 60' yet. Just wanna go have some fun and be safe.

Brey Krause has a bolt in that may or may not suffice for drag racing. I know many road racers get it to hold the shoulder harness in a 5 point. I’ve got one in my Z28 but I’m not drag racing. You might need a more serious actually roll cage but not sure of the rules and when that’s needed.

Yea thats badass. Looks like Redline's old shop. I think I can make the stock seat belt work. I have both from the backseat, that do interlock. If I move them to the front and If I can trick the airbag/harness problem, the seatbelt will lock up when needed. It's free, I will try.

I do plan on getting a harness and bar built or installed, but need to drive the car around before I get to racing. So calm down safety nuts.

I'm to the point that I'll need a full cage to go out on the strip anymore. Won't happen till I recoup from the current round of mods but I'll let you know.

My car is a rebuilt title. Front end collision. The steering wheel was replaced. So i assume the airbag when off. While gutting the interior, i found that my wiring to the drivers seat belt has been cut and taped off.

Will that stop the seatbelt from holding me in an accident?

Wtf?

Wow, WTF is right.

You would assume they replaced the belt assembly if it fired so why wouldn't they just reconnect it properly? Have you inspected the belt? Nice find.

Wow... What kind of wheel do you have now? If oem, is it the circle airbag one or the weird shaped one?

If the resistor was found on one of your seats, I bet there is a good chance that someone modified the seat wiring for aftermarket racing seats because that’s typically what you need to do when swapping to aftermarket race seats to trick the airbag system. Most likely was done by a prior owner who raced the car at some point.

They would still lock but without that connection you do not have a pretensioner to yank the slack out of the belt and pull you into the seat. My best theory in your car's case is that a previous owner had harnesses in the car and a bolt in harness bar, and in order to complete the airbag system, they cut the connector off the pretensioner and soldered in a resistor. OR, some shady ass collision center did it and simply unlocked the blown seatbelts and that car has had inoperable pretensioners since.
