Thanks, It has been moving along quite well.
I had been planning on building a new firewall and trunk and leaving the original floor. It was repaired some time ago but is still quite solid. Where as I've gone this far I decided to replace the entire floor. In the long run it will be much cleaner. I started taking measurements for the floor and started adding bracing so it can be removed without the body twisting, not sure If I will find something new and useable or if I will be making it from scratch, wanna guess which it will end up being. lol |

Hi Everyone.
My son bought a 1969 Cougar XR7, needless to say I inherited the project. Now that it is almost drivable I had a chance to jump back into the Buick. Finished the rear section of the frame, fabricated the body mounts and tacked them in place. I then cut out the trunk area and wheel wells to start building the tubs. Moving along pretty good with them. I'm hoping I will have time tomorrow to strengthen the panels with some bead rolling then I can finish the dolly work and weld them up. Where as there is nothing square about this car I decided to do the extra work and round the corners rather than a square seem. Below are some quick pictures of the various stages of making the tubs. |

Hi Janice, hope all is good
I couldn't see myself buying another Camaro after all the work I did to mine but I couldn't give up the motor so it's heart will beat on. Didn't work on the wheel tubs today, instead I took advantage of some nice weather and got the car outside so I could sandblast the area around the wheel tubs. In doing so I opened up a can of worms. The previous repairs to the car were done very solid but cosmetics was not of concern. I was going to just do the trunk and firewall for now so the car would be ready for spring but I cannot bring myself to put it together as is so I'm building a roll around stand for the body and taking it to a buddy's shop who does sandblasting so he can do all the areas that need repair and possibly the whole car, much more than I care to do here. |

One thing leads to another. Now that the body is coming off the frame again I will need a way to move it around and work on it. I can't use my frame stand because it will be used to finish welding the chassis so I decided to build another stand. This one will allow me to bolt the body to it and move it about easily while still having access to the underside with ease. It's design will allow for a wide variety of uses and can be expandable. I am also thinking of making it height adjustable. This stand will also give me a way to get it to the sandblaster and keep it so one person can move it around. Tomorrow I will mount the wheels and finish the mounting plates for the body and finish the welding. Funny, I sold my old shop so I could downsize and I keep building and buying more. So much for that idea. lol.

Got the stand for the body finished and mounted the body to it. I'm hoping to get it to the sandblaster sometime this week. The next major component that needs to be fitted is the steering box. I had it mocked up before taking the body off of the frame but until the body is back on I cannot permanently mount it.
Here's where the chassis and body are at this point. |

Thanks, should be something a little different.
Got the body and stand loaded up on the trailer, it will be going to the sandblaster Saturday morning. I'm just hoping it will make the trip safely. lol |

Got the car back from being sandblasted and put a coat of Bloxide on it to prevent flash rusting. There's a lot of ugliness going on. There has been a lot of metal work done to the car so it is structurally sound but the quality of the work is not up to par. In most cases they welded in flat pieces of sheet metal and used fiberglass to do the shaping rather than doing quality metal work so I'm going to have to cut it all out and do it right. I will be doing the trunk, wheel tubs and rear section of the car first, that way if I run out of time the car will be whole rather than cutting it all out at once and being committed to doing it all now. Here's a few pictures of what I have to deal with.

It is a lot of work, fortunately, doors, fenders, hood, trunk etc. are all in surprisingly good shape so most of the metal work is on the main body. Once the trunk, wheel tubs and firewall are done the rest can be finished while driving it so the plan is to finish those, take it apart and finish the chassis then assemble it and tackle the body work a little at a time. I'm still shooting to have it running by spring.
