Coming out of storage after 2.5 years
So, like the title says, I'm moving back home at the end of the year and my Camaro (2013 2SS) has been in storage for the last couple of years.
I put fuel-saver in before I locked it up, and put it up on jacks so the tires wouldn't be sitting, battery was also disconnected. Does anyone have any suggestions or input for getting it back up and running? I'll get a full service done right away, but just wondering if I'm better to get it trucked (like a flatbed towtruck) to the service or if it would be ok to drive it there (with some fresh gas obviously) Any help is greatly appreciated Last edited by nbsp; 10-12-2017 at 03:08 PM. |

if it was up on jacks, then the suspension was in an unnatural position. it's actually better to leave the car on the ground. Not sure how this could affect the car in that amount of time, but may be worth looking into.

The battery is probably gone so I'd replace it.

I think its better to drive and get everything up to temp...this way you can burn off any condensation. Get all the fluids moving, etc.

I would charge the battery, change the oil if you can, check for mice in the air filter, fire it up and let it get to temp. even with old oil you should have ample lubrication. If everything checks out than run it. Quick note if you have the stock air cleaner and depending how you had it stored pull up the air filter and check it for mice. I had mine stored last year and a mouse got in the air filter.

I'd pull the fuel pump fuse. Change the oil. Makes sure to fill the filter. Then crank it for a while a few times until you see oil pressure. Then put the fuel pump fuse back in and fire it up.
If you put the battery on a tender for a while, it may come back to life. Make sure radiator is full, and overflow bottle to the full cold mark before starting. Doesn't hurt a car to store on jack stands. Wives tale. |
