Question ITT you can ask me anything about being a German guy living in the US

i've taken this "ask me anything about..."-idea from another forum where we've had all kinds of weird and funny "ask me anything"-threads already (being a gang member, having 12 siblings, having depression and anxiety disorders, being lactose intolerant, etc). so i figured i'd try this on camaro5 as well and see if maybe other people can contribute some other interesting "ask me anything"-threads in the future :>

so go ahead and don't be shy. in this thread you ask me anything about being a German guy who's been living in the US for 2,5 years now! it doesn't have to be related to cars.

aaaaaaand go!

The regular Budweiser is OK. That's usually what I get at the pub if they don't have Yuengling, Sam Adams or any local microbrews.

Now if we're talking Bud Light then I have to say that's just disgusting. I think it's a shame something like that is even called a "beer". It's not a beer!

it's not that easy. I've never really been a BMW fan (Audi all the way!). But on the other hand, I've also never really been a GM fan, mostly because all we have in Germany is Opel.

Everybody seems to be driving a BMW 328 these days, I don't see what's so great about that car. I also don't like the BMW X-series. But who doesn't like an M3 for example? dayummm.

On the GM side, I obviously like the Camaro and the Corvette. The CTS is nice too and so is the G8 GXP (manual transmission!). But other than that there isn't much that I'd consider, primarily because a lot of their cars don't come with a manual transmission (malibu anyone?).

before I moved to the US I wasn't really a car guy and didn't pay much attention to cars, I didn't even have a car when I lived in Germany. I guess every guy used to have a Countach poster on the wall, but now that I got a little bit into cars I like RWD coupes a lot. Hot hatches like the Mazdaspeed 3 are fun too.

I still can't get over the idea of having a truck or something like a huge escalade as a daily driver though

Right but some places they take better care of themselves than others and come out more often. I can tell you this. I lived in the Seattle area for 7 years and here in the south there are more percentage of hot chicks walking around easily. I always told my Freind in Seattle this and he always said "whatever" but he came to visit last year and he damn sure mentioned it.

So I'm talking percentage wise.

Germany is a great place to live! You have everything from the shore (kind of like the jersey shore or long island), big cities like hamburg, berlin, cologne, munich to the alps. in the north it's very flat, and the further south you go the closer you get to the alps. What's also great is the proximity to other areas. From where I used to live it's only a three to four hour drive to Paris and Amsterdam for example. Everything is a lot smaller in Europe Germany is about the size of Montana I think. I drove from SW Kansas to S Florida (half the country), in Europe that's from Portugal to Berlin (pretty much all of Europe from West to East).

The only problem is taxes. There's a crapload of taxes being deducted from your paycheck, especially if you're single. But there's one good thing about taxes in Germany: Whenever you go to the store, what you see is what you pay since VAT is already included. The current VAT rate is 19%.

The economy is really bad these days. Some of my friends have been laid off or are working only three to four days a week. Some had to accept pay cuts as well. Overall i don't think it's any better than over here right now.

mhh, i like them both! when people think "german girls" they usually think blond, tall and blue eyes. but you can find those over here as well personally i'm more a brunette guy though! ;p
i lived in miami for quite a while, so obv there were a LOT of hot girls. now don't get me wrong, i'm not saying there aren't any hot girls in kansas (went there for college) as well! i miss my ks girls
