REMOVING STRIPES

How many of you have removed stripes, and at what mileage, where has the car lived majority of its life,

Questioning because I am wanting to remove mine but I'm worried about having ghost stripes on the car in the paint.

I only had small cowl stripes on my hood when I bought my Camaro, the ghosting was removed with compound easily. The rest of the car needed paint correction anyway.

The other thing your going to have is adhesive residue. Rapid Tac Rapid Adhesive Remover gets it off with ease.

Good to know, seems pretty simple to get them off too. think I'll get the stripes off and then have a shop buff it out

For the amount a shop will charge you your better off buying your own wheel and doing it yourself. It’s simple enough and you will can be proud to know you did it.

Very true.....if you don't want to spend a lot on a polisher, get the Harbor Freight 6" DA polisher, buy a 5" backing plate, a couple pads, and some compound/polish.

Should be able to get it all for around $100 or less.

Body shops generally use rotary buffers with wool pads, while it will make quick work of the ghosting, they usually leave swirls and holograms on the paint.

I had the car ceramic coated a little over a year ago, would that be a problem with buffing it?

Was the coating put on top of the stripes?

Well I've had my original factory stripes on 5 years no problem getting them off and no residue. Got used a hair dryed on medium heat and not in one spot very long. Since then I've had 2 other sets of stripes.
But now it runs [Naked]

I removed the Stripes from my daughter's 2012 Ashen Grey Metallic 1LT last spring, so the car was five years old. The stripes had failed and were full of small cracks.

Thanks to Photobucket for making the pictures no longer visible.
It sits outside 24/7/365. There was some ghosting that easily polished off. However, the matte black stripes appear to have melted into the clear, leaving marks where they had been. The marks are only noticeable from certain angles, and in certain light.
The stripes were easily removed by simply heating with a hair dryer, grabbing a corner and pulling. Pull while staying close to the panel and there was very little tearing or adhesive left on the panel. If I began to lift off the panel the stripe would tear or leave adhesive. The adhesive was easily removed with Goo Gone. I have an eraser wheel, but never needed it.
