Scrming's Injen Intake - Install and Info
Installed the Injen today. Cold and RAINY and I have NO GARAGE! Thankfully Scott from MRT volunteered to help out and we did the install at MRT.
And as it turned out, I'm sure glad we did. The install was a bit more involved than I was expecting. First thing is removing the stock washer bottle. Sounded pretty simple. Ok, well to do that you have to take out the wheel well liner.. which means taking off the front wheel. Hmmmmm... did I mention we used a hoist! Much easier for use with aching old backs! LOL! So with wheel off and liner removed you can see the washer bottle: Washer bottle out and the intake tube in.. You can see the bottom lip of the front fascia is wet and dirty... but up farther is dry... Now with filter in place: And now with the wheel well liner in place: So seems like the filter is pretty well tucked out of the way.. but still thinking it may get a bit damp. I'm thinking the hydroshield may be a good call here.. Did have a couple issues... seems the new screws from Injen for the MAF sensor were a bit short... However, i didn't double check.. we just grabbed a couple new ones from Scott's supply... The other issue revolved around the PCV connection. Injen supplies an "oil diffuers" and a couple pieces of hose to connect it all together.. No here the odd part. Instead of having a hose that goes on the outside of the PCV connection of the intake tube, Injen has you put the hose on the inside of the connection... kind of using the hose as a grommet/bushing... Issue became that the piece of hose that fit snugly inside the connect was to thick and prevented us from pushing the oil diffuser in. The other piece of hose fit with the oil diffuser but it was a just a tad bit loose! So... Ended up putting a bit of sealant around... problem solved! you can see it here: Now one thing... we UNDID the IAT relocation... So I am back to running the stock IAT sensor. Figured getting inlet temps from the stock IAT would be beneficial for testing and comparisons... Eventually we'll redo the relocation... but for now I'm looking at the temps from the stock IAT... And finally... the inside of the tube: a tube inside a tube? The inside tube is between the MAF and PCV... So this wraps up the first part.. the install... more to come....

Damn, gotta take the wheel off? I was hoping to do this while still strapped to the dyno, lol. Guess not.
How long did it take? I still want to do this back to back with the factory box in car, on dyno. Otherwise, looks good with the engine cover!!

The only real way to get to the washer bottle is the take the wheel well liner out... so the wheel has to come off.. We didn't hurry the install... and we stopped to talk about the other things.. I didn't keep really good track of time.. but looking at the time stamps on my pictures... I'm thinking it was around 90 minutes to install...
If you wanted to do back back to back dyno you could install the Injen ... then put the car on the dyno and do your pulls then remove the Injen washer bottle and install the stock intake and do your pulls..

As always, great info. Looks like it may be some effort to service the filter and install/remove the hydroshield ? I guess with turning the wheel out you can remove the liner and get to it?

my guess is the tube inside the tube is to redirect air around the maf sensor like airraids ramps....hope that filter don't get wet!

This is crazy, all the work you have to do for a simple air filter! Looking forward to see what your tests result in!

Do you have concerns that the intake tube is metal?

For installing the hydroshield, I just jacked the front up and installed it under the car. It's a tight squeeze, but you should be able to get it on.
