Automatic headlights issue

I have an issue that’s Been bugging me a while now. I changed the front bumper cover and grill of my 2010 2ss/rs over to a heritage grill and zl1 front bumper cover. I relocated the sensor for it over to where it says to for zl1. So I am assuming the issue is the heritage grill. It seems ever sence the change if I have my headlights on auto they rarely shut off!

So I am asking if anyone has had this issue and if so has anyone had any luck resolving this?

I thought the sensor was on the dash near the windshield.

I believe the sensor is behind the grill. It’s in different spots for zl1 and ss. I put it in the zl1 location. (Perhaps I shouldn’t have) wouldn’t have thought the heritage grill would affect it but who knows. Thought I’d ask here for help before I tore it apart and messed with it.

Isnt it the ambient temp sensor behind the grill?

However if you are correct that the sensor is in the front window would a cowl induction hood cause the issue? I put on a higher cowl hood on about the same time as the front bumper. Never really thought of it before it was mentioned that was the location for the sensor.

I’m wondering now. I always thought it was the sensor for headlights. But I looked up the headlight sensor and previous poster off in windshield appears to be correct so now I’m thinking it is the larger cowl hood I put on

Throw a towel over the sensor on the dash to see if the sensor is working. The one behind the grill is the ambient temp sensor.

How do I tell if it’s working like that? The issue is my automatic headlights always stay on. So the lights would already be on anyways reguardless of towel?

Shine a flashlight on the sensor, then throw a towel on the sensor, repeat. If the lights go on and off, your problem isn't the sensor.

Ok didn’t think about using a flashlight. I wonder if it is my hood causing the issue if it is possable to relocate the sensor?

Looking at your side view pic in your profile. It doesn’t appear that that would be the issue but, by all means, try the flashlight towel method and rule it in/out.

I am thinking the hood is playing a part it’s not a 100% of the time the headlights are on in automatic mode sometimes the lights are off but majority of the time they are on. I can see the green light for it pop on and off at times while I’m driving during the day time. Night time they will stay constantly on and won’t automatically turn off at all.

Think I figured it out. I didn’t think of it before until I got in my car. But it seems my dash mat may be causing the issue moving around as I’m driving. I didn’t want to Velcro it to my dash so it just sits there. But at least sitting in my driveway if I remove dash pad my lights turn off
