Motor City Masters on Tru TV

I saw a commercial today for a new show on Tru TV called Motor City Masters. It's a car designing show in the style of the show "Face Off"
They will start out with 10 designers and they compete in designing concept cars for Chevrolet. The winner gets a new Z/28 Camaro and $100,000.
It sound interesting. I think they said it starts June 24th.

So I read the article and there is two things that I think will make this show not so great is the judges. Jean Jennings from automobile I cant stand her writing and things she seems to like and having a celebrity guest judge is the wrong path unless its a Top Designer or past car designer who is well known or designed a beautiful car in the past. I like the guy who does the Design breakdown in Automobile mag he should be one of the perminant judges.

I'll wait until I see a couple episodes before I judge it. Just thought it could be interesting seeing them design custom Chevys.
The commercial showed a glimpse of a couple cars, one was an Impala that looked good from what I could see.

I'd take the Z/28, sell it, and use that to get a ZL1. Whatever is left I'd use to pay taxes on that stuff.

How to hug your camaro
Buy the car that you would most like to get beat in. The other guy will always be faster.

The first episode is on On Demand and my son and I watched it this afternoon. I had high hopes, but it seems its like every other piece of garbage "reality show". There is obvious fake drama between "contestants". And just like every show that has to to with building something, be it cars or home improvement, the "contestants" have an unbelievable amount of work to finish in an extraordinary short amount of time. Like that's never been shown to us before.

There is lot of talk to the camera, then more talk, then fake drama, then some work on the car, swearing between "contestants", then more talk to the camera, a little work on the car, arguing, more fake drama, more talk then WOW! the car is finished. I'm like "wait, I thought they were going to show them working on the car!" During all that I was waiting for Gordon Ramsey to pop up.

Here is a concept. Have a car show about building cars that actually centers around building a car. No fake drama. No "eliminations". No interviews several times an episode with the camera. No cliffhangers before going to a commercial. No unbelievable deadlines. Take a few episodes and build a damn car. And if they have to be judged, have judges that car enthusiasts give a damn about. Or even better, have judges people care about and a few everyday car enthusiasts.

And then in the first episode, they were supposed to take a 2014 GM car and re-imagine it a a 2015 concept. Neither team of "professional designers" came even close. Put they were mostly praised by these so called judges. What whey built were customized cars that a one hit wonder rap star would have done at West Coast Customs.

And that is my "professional" review of this tv show.

I really want to see what they do with the Camaro's. But I think I'm going to watch with the sound off.

And finally, when you read this, imagine Lewis Black is reading it out loud to you.

I saw that post too. Thats what got my hopes up to watch this show. I would really like to see the process of building them. But after seeing the first episode, I have a feeling it will be more of the same BS.

Record it and skip the BS and you can be done in 10 minutes.

But then you'd have three minutes of actual work on a car.

This was the best part of the first episode.

Chop-Cut-Rebuild Wasn't that show pretty much a decent restoration show...limited BS with a lack-luster host, but showed decent mechanics with skills?

I didn't like the Malibu at all. The cruze looked nice, other than those useless mirrors and the wrong font SS on the side.
