Last weekend my buddy Chris and I began the process of swapping my stock diffuser for an Ikon Motorsport GFX rear diffuser, which is a replica of the factory GM GFX diffuser.

We expected this install to be a pretty straight-forward one... Boy we were wrong. This install was HORRIBLE. It also didn't help that it was a crisp 17 degrees in Northern North Dakota.

Getting the 7mm bolts out of the diffuser was easy and to the point, after that, it all went to hell. We were warned that the tabs in the stock rear diffuser were extremely hard to get out. About 30 minutes, two full force yanks from Chris and a snapped and half stock diffuser later... it was off!

Ikon sent the GFX diffuser out as three pieces; the diffuser and the two metal exhaust ports. I expected these ports to just snap in, however we had to drill it in with 7 provided screws on each port. I would definitely recommend a heat gun or hair dryer set on full heat for this part. It made flexing the plastic tabs a lot easier.

Slapping the Ikon diffuser on was the easiest part. All in all, I love how it turned out!

That new diffuser looks pretty good. You gonna get square exhaust tips to go with the ports?



Mighta' been easier removing the stock diffuser had you removed the entire bumper facia though. Hopefully, should I ever decide to replace my diffuser, I'll remember to do that.

Thanks! And no, I'm going to keep the current exhaust tips. I like how they offset each other.

We thought about that about halfway through removing the diffuser. I'll probably just remove the whole bumper next time.

Back in October, I bought myself Texas Speed Performance 1 7/8" Headers. These headers were a tight fit, but fit perfectly. The headers deleted the rear O2 sensors. The headers have "Off-road pipes" (which are just hallowed out pipes) instead of functional cats.

I'm very satisfied with these headers. They're loud when you accelerate, but once you settle into a cruising speed it's not bad at all. It only gets slightly unbearable once AFM turns on. Which will be tuned out very soon. The car threw 15+ codes for O2 sensors. Which will also be tuned out. The car also threw a code for a cylinder 2 misfire... because my buddy Chris forgot to plug the spark plug wire back in for cylinder 2.

Was going back and forth between hydrodipping my engine cover or painting it. The local hydrodipper in town wanted $150 and could only do one solid design. That was a little more than I wanted to spend on the engine cover, and I didn't want it a solid color.

So I figured I'd give my artistic abilities a shot for a lot less. Worse comes to worse, I'll send it to get hydrodipped anyway.

I painted the black plastic to black gloss and the "CHEVROLET" letters red. All in all, it cost me $45 and came out better than I expected. Not perfect, but still pretty good.

Next on my list was a ZL1 Addons Wickerbill. This install was a little tricky.. Because I had never even heard of a rivet nut before, nor did I know how to use a rivet nut gun. But in the end, it all worked out.
