Question GM Expands Truck Recall Over Axle Fault but your Camaro is ok?

I just got done reading and article about GM recalling trucks for bad axle for "weren't properly heat-treated and may not be durable."

wasn't this the issue with the early order camaro's yet there wasn't a recall on them. Makes me a little disappointed.

Quote:
(AP) General Motors is expanding an earlier recall of some 2011 model-year trucks and SUVs to fix a problem that could cause the vehicles' rear axles to lock.

The recall, originally announced in December, now covers 26,751 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. The models affected are: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Cadillac EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; and GMC Canyon, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL.

GM said rear-axle cross pins, used to hold the axle in place, weren't properly heat-treated and may not be durable. They can fracture, interfere with the axle and cause it to lock. The driver could then lose control of the vehicle.

One customer has reported a loss of power to the axle, GM says. But no crashes have been reported.

GM says owners of the vehicles are being contacted and urged against driving the trucks until the axle pin is replaced.

The December recall for this same issue covered 1,262 trucks and SUVs. But the company has since discovered that more vehicles were built with the faulty axle pin. In addition, the earlier recall didn't include the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize trucks.

A GM spokesman said Saturday that the company is confident all the faulty parts have now been discovered.

No truck rides on a Zeta chassis so I wouldn't expect them to have the same problem with their SRA's as a Camaro would with it's IRS. Additionally, I'm pretty sure you're referring to the drive shaft issue as I don't recall the Camaro's ever having axle problems.

PS... I'm not trying to be a jerk

The truck issue is to a larger extent than our cars.

All I remember is a a tranny output shaft issue in June-July '09 that they never did officially acknowledge.

Doesn't AAM make the smaller truck axles? Is CAMARO's differential from AAM, too? I haven't noticed. If that's the case, there's a chance, but I imagine they would've said something.

I understand that the issue is a much larger one... BUT it is still an issue. They know who owns all the cars that have the issue. . . why not let us know. . . ?

It has nothing to do w/ output shafts. The issue is actually in the Eaton G80 locker, so unless you have a G80 in you Camaro... youre safe

FranknBeans i understand your concern of this output shaft my car was delivered on 07/02/09 vin20151 your just wasting your breath and hope if GM is going to step up and put a tsb or anything on this issue. Im just hoping it snaps and i get a newer updated version of the tranny within my warranty period of course if it snaps after that i will be seriously pissed off.
