Who owns or owned a C6 corvette and an SS?

The C6 Corvette (LS2) is heavy on my mind.

Was wondering if getting an SS will relieve the temptation.

I saw many folks own both or mention owning one. I did a search and found some feedback.

Which do you prefer? C6 or the SS? Excluding the back seat thing.

Feel free to put in as much detail as you want. Mpg, torque, visibility, looks from others, preference, etc.

I test drove a 2011 C6 before. Turning the key was like awakening a beast but driving was like riding in a rattle can. Never drove an SS yet.

Never owned a C6, but I did test drive a lot of them, as I was up in the air when it came to buying my Camaro.

Unless you're in a "LS3 and up" class of vette, I would go with the Camaro. Nothing against the LS2 vettes, but I felt I got more for my money with my 2SS/RS Camaro.

I was tempted to spend a little more coin and get a used 07-08 Z06 vette, but I was looking forward to owning a new car.

same here as wheeman. i own an ls3 camaro but i have driven many many corvettes on the street and the track. the camaro is a great car and i love mine, but driving a C6 Z06 will ruin you. a C6 coupe is great too. if you are looking for a street car, get the one you can afford and like the styling on the best. if you are looking for a track car and you can afford it, a C6 Z06 is a weapon. the camaro doesnt even compare.

5th gen Camaro and C6 Corvette use the same engine now. Hell, when the camaro was just a gleam in the eye of GM the C6 was switching over to the LS3. I believe it was the 2008 model year when they switched. So your argument is flawed. I also think the Corvette's LS3 makes a tad more power.

A C6 Corvette will run circles around any stock Camaro SS.
Even my '96 LT4 Corvette will outrun my '11 2SS.

As good as the Camaro is, those Corvettes are just a much lighter car.

Corvette does everything better performancewise of course. Camaro rides a little smoother, but I'm sure the main reason for that is the weight. My GS has the magnetic suspension, which is a fair bit smoother than the stock suspended '08 C6 that I had.

I don't really notice who looks and who doesn't.

The vette has (to me) better feeling steering, braking, just lighter in every sense. Better visibility. Better MPG if you care.

All that to say, the Camaro is a fine car, we're about to get another one, but it boils down to you, and what you're looking for in a car. But if you're looking older C6, at least get an '08 w/ the LS3, new tranny, new console and wheels, NPP, ect.

I went from a 2007 C6 to a 2010 SS. The only serious surprise (and disappointment) with the comparison was the brakes on the SS. The Corvette is very fast and stops really well. To me, the Camaro has too much power and weight for the brakes. I scared myself a few times coming to a stop from speed where the same situation in the Corvette was a non-issue.
Also, the clutch feel was much much better on the C6.

I have thought that if I had not had Corvettes first, the Camaro would have been pretty impressive though.

Am now considering going back to Corvettes, but would not rule out a ZL1.

The Camaro absolutely got a lot more attention than the C6!

I'm not sure that's correct. The LT4 C4s were nice down low, but I can't see one running past an LS3 Camaro.

If you keep your 2LT, get a C6. If you're going to trade it in, got for the SS.

With a good driver, a factory stock LT4 will run high 12's

Also no speed limiter on the Corvette, so it is a 170mph car.
Not that it matters in a drag race, just pointing it out.

I have an 05 C6 with the LS2. It has LT headers, ported intake, ported TB, Halltech CAI, Corsa Extreme exhaust and a dyno tune. 388/rwhp & 380/rwtq.

2010 SS- with all the mods listed below except the E-Force S/C, ZL1 fuel pump and 72# injectors, it had 414/rwhp and 406/rwtq.

I could tell the C6 was faster than the SS, because of the weight factor.
Now with 546/rwhp & 520/rwtq the SS is a lot faster. The C6 does corner a lot better though. I've gone around corners at 0.9** G's with the C6.

After all is said, I enjoy driving the SS more than the C6. But that is just the way I feel.

Owned a 2010 1LT/RS and now a 2011 SS/RS but spent a fair bit of time driving a "loaner" LS2 C6 Corvette last year.

In terms of comfort, the Camaro wins. Your assessment of "awakening a beast but driving was like riding in a rattle can" for the C6 matches my opinion exactly.

As for mpgs, I did slightly better in highway cruising @ 70mph in the C6 (~32mpg) than I did in either Camaro (V6-~28mpg, V8-~25mpg) but around town and having fun...C6 drank gas like it was going out of style.

Looks - personal opinion really. I've seen C6 Corvettes that look like they won the Autozone makeover award, as well as some that looked downright awesome. It really comes down to what look you want to portray to the public. Although I will say that society seems to have a stereotype associated with both vehicles but I've never had a stoplight bum chew me out for not handing over change in my Camaro but the C6 drew some nasty comments about how I could afford a Corvette but not have any money for the homeless...

As for a driving comparison between the C6 and the SS...The C6 handled better at speed and always felt like it was my job to hold it back from just taking off. The SS feels more like I can push it as much as I want and it will just give me what I ask of it. In terms of fun factor while driving, I actually preferred the C6 because of the handling and the feeling of raw power on tap under my right foot.

Honestly, you'll need to drive both yourself and determine which one suits your driving style better, as well as which one portrays the image to society that you see fitting you best. Good luck with the decision.
