Wink Back in love with my 5th gen ZL1 after comparing to others

This weekend I went to see the new 6th gen ZL1, and while I was there I test drive a Stingray and saw a 6th.gen 1LE there. This are my impressions compared to my 5th gen ZL1:
1. The 6th.gen ZL1 looks amazing, except that the rear is difficult to distinguish from a regular SS. There is no way that I could fit confortable on the new Recaros (1LE has the same) compared to the prior Recaros on my 5th.gen ZL1, which are more confortable compared to them.
2. The hood vinyl on the 1LE is fucgly, if I bought the car I would rip it off immediately. They look out of place on the car and look very cheap.
3. 6th. gen's useless rear seat.

After driving the Stingray I found that is an incredible looking car.Because it's lightweight, with better aerodinamics and lower to the floor, it feels as fast as our 5th. gen ZL1, even that is N.A. compared to our 5th. gen S.C. ZL1s.
But.
4. I don't consider that it could be a D.D. very difficult to ingress or get out from those seats. My wife probably would hate me because of it, but once seated it felt great, inside the cabin. Our Camaros are more DDs not just weekend toys.
5. By shifting the 7 speed manual transmission you will find that is very easy to miss shift from 4th. gear to the 5th. gear and instead it will go to the 7th gear. For me, this is a bad design issue compared to the 6 speed manual transmissions which feels more logical.

6. No way that the 6th gen Camaro would look better compared to the great looking 5th. gen Muscle car look of our cars.

Thanks to that visit to the dealership I felt completely back in love with my perfect fitting 5th gen ZL1 The only thing that I miss now is the rowing of the shifter involment feel, because mine is an automatic, but is faster and my wife loves the automatic transmission.

One thing I don't like about our ZL1s is I can't help but feel like I'm in a padded boat on the road compared to Vettes and newer cars. The 6th Gen Camaro feels a lot smaller and sportier on the road. Lap times back this up. A new $45,000 6th gen SS 1LE with all the comforts of a 2SS, matches the lap times of the $76,000 track-focused (AKA street-Compromised) 5th Gen Z28.

I haven't driven a 6ZL1 but I sat in it and the new interior is much improved in looks and feel.

I mean, you heard what Johnny Lieberman said about the 5th gens ZL1..."A big engine stuffed where it doesn't belong". I definitely think the 6th gen ZL1s are on a different level in track performance, I mean it handed the Shelby GT350R's ass to it in every category and more. The 5th ZL1 was a decent amount slower than a 5th Z28 on a track, and a GT350R was significantly quicker than a 5th Z28, and now the 6th ZL1 is significantly faster than a GT350R.

We're in great times right now.

I completely agree with you that the 6th gen SS 1LE & ZL1 are something else, very competitive and improved Camaros, just the only thing missing now is the optional seats. One size doesn't fit all. :(

Funny thing is that a big old hunk of 60s steel is still lighter than even 6th gen camaros, and when you think of those cars and even a chevelle you think chevelle oh that's too heavy. I only wish you could get a car that big to weigh that light now a days. If it came out now probably weigh almost 5000 pounds might as well get a truck lol

Love my 5th gen with the usable back seat for the kids

Nice review OP. I am still impressed with the C7 stingray and how it responds to mods with that lightweight chassis.

I agree with you on the 6th vs 5th gen ZL1 comparison. If I had a stock or lightly modded 5th Gen ZL1 I would strongly consider the new ZL1 as a DD. I think the jury is still out on how much you can push the LT4 versus LSA full boogie tilt on power for straight line events.

I am hearing and seeing great things about the 6th gen SS and 1LE. I recently joined their FB forum and they are actually making that thing look better the the 6th gen ZL1.

Great times we are living in to have these tough decisions lol

This last weekend, I took my ZL1 to the dealership and test drove a Grand Sport. It was highly option out at 95K. I really liked the interior seating position on the Vette. The interior is much nicer. It feels like a much more refined car as you should expect at this price point. My ZL1 is lightly modded making 525 to the rear wheels, but it was clearly more powerful than the Vette. They have been sitting on this car for a while and are anxious to move it. It would be tempting for the right money difference, but I really like my ZL1.

I'm extremely satisfied my ZL1...Lightly modded, comfortable on long road trips, and has enough tech that I basically can understand, easy on maintenance and does what I ask of it without a question...So it looks like I have my soulmate...

I haven't fallen out of love with it yet. The ZL1 is a complete package IMO.

X2!! The kids love riding in the back...No way they would fit in the 6th gen as they got a little older, its just way too small

Love my 15 ZL1's trans. Unless you like rowing, the A6 is unreal. Especially in 3 PTM on the street. Upshifts are quick and downshifting based on suspension sensors is plain bad-assed. It shifts faster than you can think. Plus, you keep two hands on the steering and can concentrate better.

Ok lol.

The new A10 is the most advanced auto ever put in an American car and probably ANY car. Its shifts are quicker than the A8 in the Z06/CTS-V which were much faster than the shifts in the A6 from the CTS-V/ZL1. You want to talk about shifting purely based on suspension, throttle position, and driving aggression? The A10 reads your damn mind lol. Not calling any crap on you just saying that like that's no hit against the new ZL1 as the A10 is a whole new world.

Besides all that, manual life
