Hertz renting rebadged Camaro LT V6s as V8 SS cars

Hello All,

What better group to help me out on this then the people on this 5th gen forum. Been lurking around a bit since I want to get a SS or (if i lucky) a ZL1 sometime next year. Promised my new wife we'd get a house first...then it's my turn lol.

Anyways, my wife and I are on the last leg of our honeymoon on Oahu. As a treat we upgraded to a Camaro SS since we arrived at the Hertz counter a bit early they had some available. I saw the SS ad flashing by on the TV behind the counter and I bit. I thought it would be nice introduction to a V8 5th gen car for when I look for one next year.

On the drive home I noticed there was something missing, it didnt have a growl and seemed to miss a bit of omph. I have a 02 v6 so while it was certainly more peppy, it didnt feel like it was a 400hp V8 car.

So when I get to where we are going I pop the hood and what is there to my surprise...a V6 engine cover, 6 spark plugs, V6 belt routing, and even V6 engine parts sticker on the underside of the hood. The VIN is also that for a V6 car.

So, what is the deal with this "SS". I even searched the VIN and it comes up as a convertible 2LT. How can they rent this as a SS??? Am I missing something here? Im not crazy that is a V6 in there right?

LOL yeah that is definitely a V6. I'd be pitching a fit at Hertz if they upcharged you for an SS and you got a V6. There is a big difference in price as far as rentals go.

Thanks for the quick responses. Oh I did throw a fit yesterday, ended up getting the rental for the price we were originally going to pay for a full size, so even less than their regular Camaro rental would cost.

This just seems wrong, how can they do this? It seems to be a fully loaded LT with SS badges. I dont know if I should tell anyone else...I had honestly thought on e-mailing the Hawaii attorney general. Maybe a bit over the top but this is certainly false advertising.

I would just feel really bad for people thinking they are getting an SS and paying for a V8 specialty car when they are getting a fully loaded LT instead.

Yeah, I agree with Belle. If they charged you extra having the SS versus a LT or LS as a rental you better ask for your money back. That's false advertisement if they are saying they have SS and only have V6's on the lot.

I'd sue. Raise a stink, get the news involved. Hertz will settle. Blatant misdirection and false advertising.

Fraud... or a lot of troll work. Hard to believe a chain would be rebadging cars.

Wow. I've rented SS's from Hertz in Las Vegas three times previously. No issues as all three were definitely SS A6's. I've got another trip coming up in a few weeks and have another SS reserved. I'll definitely give the car a close look before leaving. An SS badge on a car with no mail slot would be an immediate red flag.
