3.45 rear differential out of m6

I have a chance to put a rear differential out of a m6 into my camaro ss a6. Who has done this and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

I did it and it help acceleration just a bit, but my main reason was so that I would turn about 200-300 more rpm crossing the 1/4 mile finish line in 4th gear.

Going from 3.27's to 3.45's will not be noticeable in your fuel mileage. In my own opinion, I don't think that is worth all the labor involved, or especially the cost to have it done. If you're going to upgrade, get some 3.70's....minimum. Just thinking out loud...Sorry!!!

I sold my 3.45 diff to an A6 guy for 500 bucks. Sold it in a day, the guy drove up from houston to pick it up. He pm'd be back that he loves it and was pretty damn happy. Cant remember his user name here though.

Advantages: quicker 0-60, city mpg should be better, easier to peel out (if you like that)...Disadvantages: highway mpg will lower, easier to lose traction

In reality the 3.45's will improve performance but will not feel too different over the 3.27's...Most guys with a6 will move to 3.70/3.73 to really feel the difference as mentioned above. Also, as Bblazzin said fuel cost will not be noticeable as the city gets better and highway gets worse it becomes a wash.

I would say it was not really a noticiable difference. It help with my 60ft times too, but I also changed other things at the same time. It will make your speedo about 3 mph off unless you update the tune.

Thanks everyone for the input. I decided to get the rear differential and I am glad I did plus I bought magnaflow 16483 cat back. Now the car sounds good and feels very alive when getting on it.

It's not the speed o being off that's the concern its having the proper shift tune
