Frustrations With Order Changes
I'm as worried as the next guy about the economy, US Auto makers, delays with the Camaro, etc. However, for now I'm going to assume that this will somehow be worked out. That said, I need to vent a little about the confusion (in my mind at least) and frustrations involved in making even a minor change to my existing 2SS/RS order. It doen't matter if it's adding polished wheels (beaten to death, I know) or something as simple as changing the stripe package color ... the "system" simply will not let it happen ... on a Thursday-Saturday or any other time (I tried again this afternoon). I'm now seeing that changes can be made "sometime after Thanksgiving". Well, "sometime after Thanksgiving" is sometime close to the time these orders are supposed to be picked up by GM. Is there anyone out there who can shed a little light on what's really going to happen and when? I'm depending on the good folks on this forum to keep me up to date. I don't want to miss out on whatever time window we get for changes ... and I'm sure the General Manager at my dealership is as tired of talking to me as I am to him (though he's cheerfully checked every time I've asked, which is often). Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

I told my dealer to order me a victory red RS/SS2 they said done. So a month later on the 13 I went in to make sure they ordered what I wanted. I found out they ordered a victory red SS2 not with the RS package. I was told the system wouldn't let them make the change but they would call GM and get it changed. I will check Dec 13 to make sure they did it.

Sounds like a question for Fbodfather to me, maybe he'll stop by later.

the system wont let us change orders at this time BUT we can cancel orders and reorder the car how you want it. I have had to do this a few times with my customers already as well as for my own personal order.

Just ask when will the system allow changes... Don't feel bad if he can't get back to you, I know he's wicked busy. |

I checked with my dealer yestarday about changing the color from Black to Imperial Blue and adding the high polshed wheels to my son's 2SS/RS. Still no JOY.
Why can't GM get their on-line ordering system functioning, or are suppliers balking and GM is reluctant to proceed with these changes???? BTW my dealer was given 9 allocations for the first 5 months of production, it appeared all were spoken for, while on the phone with my dealer I asked if he had firm orders for all NINE. He said NO, he's still has 5 open allocations. Folks that were on his "dream sheet" over a year ago have now opted out. He also has two vette's on his floor (one 08 and one 09) he can't sell. The 08 has been their since June. |

The problem is that currently, all orders placed via order workbench are vaporware. People think that they actually have orders placed but they don't. They are basically like an "order request". Those requests won't be turned into full fledged orders until GM opens regular ordering. This whole early order program is a little bit wonky. I know that it helps GM get an idea for the numbers of orders coming for the car but I'm starting to think they wasted our time with this EOP and we would have been better served with a normal order system.

Again guys, thank you for all your responses! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for.
Fbodfather was gracious enough to respond to a PM I sent him last night: Quote:
Based on this all this feedback, it looks like a reasonable plan would be to cancel/re-order for changes like body color, stripe packages, etc., then hang tight until early December for the polished wheels. I think this is what I'll do. Wish me luck! |

Everyone has PRE_ORDERS right now. on Dec 2nd they will be accepted for production, after that your dealer can then assign priority numbers to his orders. So in short you shouldnt lose your place if you cancel and reorder before then. I have had to do this already. You will get a NEW order number but dont worry. If your dealer doesnt know this have them call me and I will talk them through it. I hope this helps and have a wonderful day!

December 2nd....is that a firm date for the order drop to production??? So, basically I need to ensure I have my final car configuration by that date?? (I pre-ordered on 10/13).

Yes, please answer this....I keep reading so many different things about this "drop to production date" stuff....if that is a fact, then I need to be sure I have the polished wheels added by then.... I guess on Dec. 1st I will be heading down to see my dealer...
