Tires

Found some goodyear eagle super car tires that are brand new and dated in 2012. They are on sale, would it be safe to put these on and run them or would it be best to get newly dated ones?

Thanks

Depends on the deal and how you drive it. If they've never been installed, I'd do it on a commuter car. I also don't drive like I used to.

Why would you want to buy 4 year old tires?

if they have never been mounted and pretty cheep then might be worth it, once they see daylight in use I would not do that, dry rot can set in pretty quick and you might mount them and start seeing cracking relatively soon. if it was an all season I would be less worried but soft sticky summers I am not sure I would risk it. how cheap is cheap?

They are from Tirerack. They are going for $184. Normal price from them is $294.
They only have the left side and since they are dated they are having them on sale. So I would only purchase one tire. The right side would be new. They are brand new and the guy there said that they haven't seen daylight or anything. I will be taking the car to the track this year quite often.
Seems as though I should just get both brand new though

A track inspection doesn't allow tires older than 5 years.
