How to replace coolant temp sensor - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I took my 2010 V6 Camaro in for a coolant change yesterday at a local auto shop. As soon as I got on the freeway going home, I got a check engine light on for engine overheating.

There were no problems before the shop changed the coolant, but they deny all responsibility for any coolant issues. They think it's the sensor because they checked the actual temperature and was not overheating, which points to a bad sensor.

I bought the part online today to replace myself since it's $20, but I'm having trouble locating it. I did see a couple diagrams online, but I still can't find it.

Has anyone changed this part out, or can help me find where it is? the diagram shows it on the driver side, side of the engine. I took some pictures, but need further guidance on where this sensor is.

I believe I found it, but not sure how to access it.

I tried getting a 19mm wrench down there and the oil dip stick and some other hoses are in the way.

Is there a step by step for removal?

Also, once removed, will the coolant leak out?

Gonna probably leak a little. I would check my fuild level again and check for air in the system. Unless the problem was there before you had it serviced. Just a thought. Run the car with radiator cap off for a good 10 minutes and purge the system. Good luck

Does anyone know the steps to access this, or is there a special tool I need? I can't reach it with a regular wrench, too much stuff in the way down there.

I have a feeling you should double check coolant level first, it could be coincidence that it failed after being serviced but I wouldn't bet money on it.

I was thinking it probably has an air bubble in the system. That it probably wasn't bleed well enough. I agree with you that it would be just to odd for it fail exactly when the flush was done. Not that it couldn't, but so not likely.

Remove senor plug, then use an extension and a deep socket 19mm to remove. It seems like you can access it without removing anything. Use a swivel adapter if possible to get more access good luck. Btw its the shops responsibility to find out why its overheating . They were the last people to service the car. Dont take your car to a low tier shop a reputable shop would try to fix this simple problem

This^. Don"t chase parts. It is frustrating and can be expensive. Trouble shoot the simple solutions first, like low coolant level or air trapped in the system. You can check the sensor (or if your not an electrically orientated person), or a shop can check it first to verify if it's bad. I'd say, not likely that the sensor would fail right after your coolant was flushed....Bottom line, if you trust that shop, have them figure it out. Otherwise find another one.

You probably have air in the system. Highly doubt the sensor is bad

I tried using a deep socket but the oil stick would be in the way, is there a special tool I don’t know about? The engine light is giving me a code for the sensor
