Tire advice please!
Hello all
I am brand new to this forum, having joined only a few days ago. I recently emigrated to Canada (Montreal) from the UK, and this move has allowed me to finally achieve one of my dreams - to own a muscle car (they don't make a lot of sense with single-track lanes, constant rain, and gas at almost $10 per gallon) . I wanted a Corvette (yes I know...sorry), but when I saw a vision of beauty in the dealer showroom, I knew it was the car for me. I purchased a 2011 2SS Convertible (Auto). She is black on black, and is loaded with just about every option, including the HUD which I love, has 36 000 KM showing and is pretty much immaculate. My question is this: She is wearing Pirelli P Zero's, and they are fairly worn. I would like to replace the tires (all 4) and am looking for suggestions as to the most suitable type. She has an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger, Snow performance methanol injection, Borla staight pipe titanium exhaust and a custom ignition and fuel map. She produces 672 BHP at the rear wheels. I do not drive her everyday - she will probably see a maximum of 3 to 4000 KM per year. I need something sticky that will allow me to use the performance, or at least some of it. The current tires are lit up with a small dab of the throttle in just about any conditions. I look forward to suggestions from you, and to getting far more involved in the world of Camaro's. Thank you all David |

I'm not surprised that your P-Zeros won't hook. I was losing traction all the time with mine and I'm stock except for gears and CAI. I went with Continental DWS 06 Plus and even though they are an all season they have way better traction than the Pirellis. With the power you're putting down I just don't know though.

Check out the Vredestein Tire. Great tire found on most European performance cars. I've run them for about 8 years and love them on the road and track.

The Nitto Invo's I have been running have been great.
After 3 seasons of track days, they are still going strong. The Michelin Piolet Super Sports I had before were extremely good as well, but wore more quickly.

I have been running the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06's ever since I got the Camaro, took the crappy P-Zero's off ASAP... I really like these tires, they wear well, grip well and drive nice and quite and handle well in the rain too..

I live in a cooler climate also (Alaska) so I went with BF Goodrich all season tires even though I just drive it in the spring/ summer seasons. They just arrived yesterday so I have not tried them out yet. My P-Zero's are about worthless where I live. I also went with a much wider setup than came stock on the SS. I have 285's in the front and 305's for the rear (stock rear's are only 275's).

I have nitto nt555g2 on the front and the RII on the rear and it seems to be pretty solid on the street

I just swapped from BFGoodrich GForce Comp 2's, to Continental Extreme Sport Contacts on all four corners. Couldn't be happier. They were a little more expensive than the BFG's, but worth every penny IMHO.

P-Zero tires are terrible. And even more terrible in cool weather. And lethal in cool and wet weather.
Living in Quebec, summer tires will out-perform all season tires maybe 10 days out of the year. Get some high performance all season tires, for example BFG Comp2 A/S (I have these and I live in chilly coastal New England). Tirerack.com has articles on tests comparing high performance all season tires. |
