Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone else has ever found their OEM lug nuts had issues with fitting a 22mm socket? I've always used a 7/8 until recently when I was gifted a 22mm socket and to my surprise, I found that it wouldn't fully seat onto my lugs. It would go in a bit then stop. However, my 7/8s fit perfectly fine with the tiniest wiggle space.

I've been told that the lugs have been metric since the early 2000s but this situation has definitely confounded me.

I had to buy a thinner wall socket to fit my wheels but I'm pretty sure it's metric.

I used a 7/8 as well and I just pulled and polished all of mine .

The difference between 7/8” and 22mm is approximately .010”. My guess is the reason you can’t fit the 22mm socket on the lug is from slight distortion from prior use of a SAE socket. I wouldn’t have any concern using a 7/8” socket.

This is exactly why I can fit a 22mm on some of mine without an issue, but the others give me a hard time.

wierd...i use a 4 way lug wrench on mine no problem

Same here and isn’t it 13/16” might be wrong.

Yeah that might be it. The ridges of the lug are a bit flatter per say vs the ones that fit the 22mm. The flat sides fit the 22mm socket fine but its the ridges that have issues fitting. I wonder if the ones that DO fit my 22mm will deform more over time to the point where it won't fit anymore...

The nuts with the stainless cover can get damaged and cause tight fitment. Use of an impact gun is a leading cause of the damage
